Question about Dell Latitude D820 Notebook
Okay so I have a latitude d820 laptop and am using a linksys router to connect to the internet. A few days ago I was using the internet when suddenly it stopped working. I tried resetting the router as usual, but that didn't work. I couldn't connect to the wireless, and for some reason it was saying there was an ip conflict with another system on the network. I ran the windows troubleshooter, and after releasing and renewing the ip address, and making sure the default gateway ip address was correct, I could then connect to the wireless. But now it still keeps on saying server not found. Restoring the router to factory settings didn't help, and I can't connect with a cable instead of the wireless either. No other computers are having any trouble connecting.
I ran a virus scan (with Symantec), but none were found, and the last virus definitions update was the day it stopped working.
Not sure if this relates at all, but the day before the internet stopped working, the laptop was ran really slowly upon starting up. A simple restart solved the problem, but I thought I'd mention it in case it's a symptom of any viruses.
Over the summer there was a day where for some reason I could connect to the wireless but not use the internet, but then it just started working again the next day. If that happens to be relevant.
Anyway sorry about the long post but I wanted to make sure all possible details were there, and thanks in advance for any help.
You can try to run a 'Winsock fix'
Sometimes internet settings just get messed up and this sets them to default.
I've personally also had a lot of problems with Norton. (The Symantec Corporate version is much better). If you are running Norton try their removal tool and see if you can connect after rebooting. Then reinstall your anti-virus software right away!
