Inspiron 1100,screen will not come on at all,is there a way to format the hard drive without seeing what you are doing? Also it will not boost from a XP disc to fix it.Last time i seen the screen it had 2...

You can hook the laptop up to an external VGA monitor and then power on, you should get video externally by default.

If you don't try pressing the FN + F5 key once.

If it wont' boot to the XP cd make sure the boot order is set to boot cd rom / dvd rom first in the bios setup page.

Let me know if you get stuck or have any other questions ;)

Dell inspiron 1100 wont stay on

Normally the battery light will rapidly flash orange if the battery is defective. It will alternate between orange and green if it is too hot to charge. Or it will either flash orange or be a steady orange if the battery is low or completely discharged. Based on this and the fact that you cannot get it to stay on for more than 7 seconds, I would have to say that you need to recharge the battery by plugging the laptop into an AC outlet. After all, it can't run without the juice.

Dell inspiron 1501 work fine turn off last night now wont turn on

You mentioned trying a different battery, try a different AC adapter.

When plugging in the ac adapter to the wall, see if the POWER LED comes on on the adapter, then when you connect it to the computer, see if the LED stays on.

If the issue occurs with both AC adapters (No battery installed) then the motherboard has failed. If one ac adapter works but the other doesn't then the adapter is bad

Do you mean to say there's No power or wont boot into Windows ?
Did you check your RAM and made sure the're properly seated ?

Try tapping on F8 while rebooting to go to Safe Mode and selecting "Last Known Good Configuration"
