If your asking will a new salt system clean my pool from a preseason condition , well no not really , salt systems are for maintaining a healthy pool water thru the season , see they use the salt ions to make chlorine , so I guess technically yes but it would take ten times longer to do it and by then the salt would be all used up (converted) , its much easier to use common pool chemicals to "start up" the pool then after a healthy chemistry is achieved then switch over to salt system , and even after u switch always keep an eye on your water chemistry(testing ) and your never will be surprised by an upset !!

SOURCE: My saltwater pool tastes very salty, but my intex

Your salt is way to high if you can taste it. You will need to dilute with fresh water until you get the salt back down and then clean the cell for continued use.

SOURCE: Algae forming in pool

ok here is the scoop first of all the generator will not raise your PH

Hard water rain and bad pool maintainence raises PH

Yes you need to add chemicals Salt water system is to just not need to physically pour chlorine in

on to your problem, you need to get a test kit and make sure you get your salt to the level it needs to be at ( about 10 bucks for 10 tests)

3000ppm is a good level any higher and you will definately have a salty taste any lower than 2500ppm and your generator will not produce enough chlorine

If you are close but under 3000ppm add 10 pounds of salt at a time till you get to 3000 making sure you filter/curculate only ( no generator ) for at least 24 hours even if you do not see the salt it is not mixed enough
If it is too high then let out 2-4 inches of water re-fill and filter for about 4 hours and then check

once your salt is proper then go on to getting your chlorine level to 1.0-3.0
this will never be achievable on a daily basis so be ready to deal with ph also
chlorine will fluctuate greatly depending on #of swimmers per day, sun light, heat, and rain so as a general guide start out with 4 hours of chlorine generation and see what that does for you for that specific day you may have only needed 2 hours or maybe you needed 6 hours you are the best judge of this once you become familiar with what works for your situation

now for ph it is some what controlled by chlorine level so once you get it set while the chlorine is good the ph will rise and fall with the chlorine level Usually not enough to make a difference unless you have to add hundreds of gallons of water or if you have so much rain that it over flowed your pool so check your level and either use ph up or down for your situation you need to be close to 7.4 or so

Now to really address your problem ( ALGEA )

most pool owners do not realize just what it takes or is involved in proper pool care.

A pool will form algea for a # of reasons but if you filter proper;y it will remedy other problems that could occur
first you need to realize that a pools water needs turned over at LEAST 3 times a day ( swimmers or not ) by this I mean (and you gave no specifics on pool size) Lets use generic #'s If you have a 4000gallon pool and a 2000gallon pump you need to run your filter for at least 6 hours you do the math for your size pump and gallons of water

Now this is over and above the chlorine generation so as you see it is important to stay on top of the maintainence especially if no one uses it since that creates curculation

well after all of this add a good chlorine stabilizer and that will help with holding your chlorine level also

JUST REMEMBER FILTER FILTER FILTER
especially since the intex filters are not strong enough for the size pool that comes with it

And I forgot to mention you should spray the paper cartridge with the garden hose on high from top to bottom EVERY DAY

Yes, and be sure to keep up with your pH as it will want to rise slowly over time when using a salt water chlorine generator.

Check the electrolytic cell!!! You will get a low salt alarm if cell has calcium or sodium build up.. If it does, soak, flush and clean with vinegar.. Also, make sure you run the pump only, no chlorinator for 24 hrs to properly disolve the salt you just put in....

My generator first indicated low salt. I've added plenty of salt, and it still indicated low salt. I turned it off for 24 hours, and tried it again, now it has the service indicator light on,what next ?

We've found with our saltwater system (which doesn't have a service light, so not the same model as yours) that we have to add far more salt than we expect before the 'low salt' indicator goes off. It also seems to be very tempramental whenever it's been off for a while (such as over winter) & needs to run for very short bursts at first before working up to normal operating times.

My pool is nasty green...waiting for intex saltwater unit to arrive. Do I need to drain pool before and put clean water in before I begin running this new pump?

I would start with a fresh clean pool if it's that nasty green!!! Drain and scrub all algae..
Did you already buy your salt?? Remember.. you will need to add your salt and run the pump without the chlorinator for 24 hrs to properly dissolve the salt.. If your not sure how much salt to buy, post again how many gallons your pool is and how much salt will you need and you should get an answer from one of us... Good luck....

How to put the salt water pump together and when do we add the salt

After the system is connected, you add the salt, run the pump only for 24 hrs to properly disolve the salt and then you can set you timer on the chlorinator to sync with you pump. Here's a pic of where the salt system should be attached... Can't give you step by step without knowing what you pool looks like.. Sorry...

I have an Intex Ultra Frame 24'x52" pool. We are installing the saltwater filtration system today. How much salt will be need to use and are there any other chemicals we should use for the initial setup?

I HAVE THE SAME POOL FOR YOUR FIRST START UP ADD 310 OF POOL SALT. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A INTEX SALTWATER CHLORINATOR I WOULD SUGGEST GETTING ONE. IT WILL GIVE YOU READINGS ON LOW SALT, HIGH SALT, AND ALSO HAS A BOOST FOR COPPER IONIZATION, WHICH KILLS ALGEA AND BACTERIA. MIX YOUR SALT AROUND THE POOL AND LET THE PUMP CIRCULATE IT. GET A TEST KIT TO CHECK YOUR SALT LEVEL. IT SHOULD BE AT .OO3 OR 3 PPM. TO DO A GOOD JOB OF KEEPING YOUR WATER CIRCULATED YOU MAY NEED TO UPGRADE YOUR PUMP FROM THE 2500 GPM TO THE 4000 GPM PUMP. THE INITIAL SALT YOU ADD SHOULD GET YOU IN THE BALL PARK. AFTER CIRCULATING AND SWIMMING A FEW TIMES CHECK THE LEVEL AND IF TO HIGH LET OUT WATER AND ADD FRESH, IF TO LOW ADD MORE SALT. ONCE SET YOU SHOULD BE GOOD TO GO AND ENJOY FOR THE SEASON. HOWEVER I RECCOMEND CHECKING YOUR POOL LEVELS WEEKLY. HOPE THIS HELPS.

I just bought a saltwater system for my 12x39 pool a month ago did start up like book said and pool was fine for a month then the low salt light came on so i put 15 lbs of salt in per instructions kids...

you really should get test strips for salt. Get the kind that reads #'s
Get your pool to as close to 3000ppm as you can. any lower than 27000 and you do not generate enough chlorine any higher than 3600 will taste bad and could trigger high salt alarm 3000 is best

run filter only for a few hours before running generator the salt needs enough time to fully distribute through the pool

My pool looks like it has a green tint to the water when the slat water system is not running why? Also my ph is low how do I fix this?

Might need more salt. Ihad a salt system at one time and went back to just adding chlorine. To many problems with the salt system. Easier to add chemicals weekly

My intex saltwater system green light then low salt light

You need to add salt to the water. How much depends on what size pool you have. Your owner's manual will tell you exactly how much to add when the low salt light comes on. On my Intex I would need to add 35 lbs.
