Perhaps there was another system installed at another time and someone cut the wires within the system to make that particular stereo system work. Inspect the wires all the way from the decks wiring harness to the speakers, they could be cut and you might be able to splice the wires and reconnect them or you may have to run seperate speaker wire for each speaker to resolve this issue.
I have an '03 Explorer with the 6 disc changer. It does the same thing. Many times, you can set the radio to "FM1" and hold down buttons 3 and 6 on the radio. This will put the unit into self diagnostic mode. After it runs the diag., turn off the ignition and remove the key for at least 30 seconds. Sometimes it takes a couple times but it always works on mine.

well on mine, I have to turn off the sat. radio before the kids can watch dvd and I can only listen to radio or cd while they watching dvd. I don't even know if you are able to listen to dvd through them speakers, because it came with headsets. I know I am not big help, but I think you have to change something on the front radio. If nobody else can answer your question, than I will look tomorrow to see how I turn on my dvd player and tell you what I have to push.
