Try removing the battery and switch on your notebook using the ac adapter only if it works then i think you need a replacement for the battery or you can try to power cycle your notebook i hope it applies to hp notebooks coz it works all the time with dell vostro. to power cycle: unplug/remove ac adapter, battery, usb devices (mp3, ipod, printers, etc) optical drive, network cable then press and hold the power button not less than 10 seconds then put everything back except for the usb devices and network cable if it works then you can plug everything back again.

MY PAVILLION WILL NOT COME ON AFTER PRESSING THE BUTTON.

1) HP Pavilion 745n Desktop PC is dirty inside. Power unplugged from computer, Anti-Static Precautions -> FOLLOWED, use a can, or two of compressed air for computers, and clean. (Especially the processor heatsink fins, and processor fan)

2) Also replace the Power Supply.

Before doing so suggest performing the simple test to see if the problem is the Power On button, or Power Supply. Test voltages coming out of Power Supply with a multimeter, or use a KNOWN to be good, Compatible power supply for a test unit, borrowed from a working computer.

Need guidance with the above post back in a Comment.

Power supply unit starts (fan running) but computer does not....

Try swapping out the ram 1 at a time, making sure there is one memory piece there while testing. If no! check hard drive for activity.

Hp a1712n shut it down and will not turn back on nothing happens when you hit the switch

Either your power switch is not working properly, your motherboard is not sending the proper signal to the power supply, or your power supply is not coming on when it receives the signal from the motherboard. Most likely is failing power supply, but test your switch with a multi-meter, then test the signal coming to the power supply. You will have to look up the pin-out on your model, can't tell from the documents whether it is a 20 pin or 24 pin power supply connector to the motherboard.

Hp pavillon won't start-up

Open your computer case and plug the computer in. Look for any LEDs on the motherboard. A power surge can damage any and all components in the system. The only easy way to test the power supply is check it in a working computer. But if you get another power supply you can hook it to your system to see if the problem goes away. Power supplies can be found used for less than $20, look in your area for a place that sells used computers.
