My unit starts a cut nicely but stops cutting in about one inch. I tried various amp and pressure settings and maintained 1/8 inch from material.. Am I doing something wrong?

try these suggstions

1. new needle--one for the fabric being used--flat side always goes to the back--make sure the presser foot in up
2. make sure the thread has not come off the thread take up lever
3. rethread the machine--use Every Thread Guide

Hi there.
You may need to calibrate the new thermostat and in doing so, you will need a calibrated thermometer with sensor dipped in oil at about one (1) inch above the fryer thermostat sensing bulb.
Record the cut-off temp (when indicator light goes off) and compare it with the thermostat setting.
The thermostat has a calibration screw ( - ) recessed in the middle of the shaft, you will see the when you pull off the thermostat knob. this calibration screw can be turned by a precision screw driver, turn clockwise to decrease the cut-off temperature ; turn counterclockwise to increase the cut-off temperature.
Just make sure that the unit is preheated or have cycled at least 5 to 8 times and the oil is new before performing the calibration.

When factory reeds are not available, I generally use reed stock. What the heck is that you might ask. Reed stock is any material handy that will substitute for the factory reeds. I have used feeler gage material, reeds from other compressors cut down to size, hacksaw blades with saw edge ground off, rewind spring from various nailers and finally thin stainless steel sheets. You can be creative, all it needs to do is set nicely in the space provided. Another hint: Some reedvalve plates have one reed valve with several fingers acting over several matching ports. You can cut away the broken reedfinger leaving the remaining portion. Now you have an open port. All you need do is thread hole and apply treadlock to a piece of bolt cut to same thickness of plate. hi there, if there is enough air pressure present in the compressor the motor will stop,the pressure switch is working.if there is a good pressure at start then suddenly lost the pressure,there is no maintaining pressure to use but on the pressure gauge appear to be have a good or enough air pressure. check if the pressure gauge have enough air pressure the motor is stop,meaning the cut out limit switch stop the motor,if you loosen the air pressure from the valve until the cut in pressure attain or meet the motor will run again there will be a cycle process of differential pressure of cut in and cut out set up on pressure switch. checking the compressor,be sure there is a high pressure on compressor and the compressor motor is stop,shut off service valve and disconnect unit device / tools from the service valve. if the compressor have enough air pressure crakc down the service valve and observe the pressure until it run again the compressor motor,if the pressure maintain the pressure you need to clean the bench, the problem is the unit device/tool you use is defective, but if the maintaining air pressure in the compressor is lost due to malfuction of motor and the compressor engine. check the pressure switch, check the motor function by loosening the belt and run the motor w/o the compressor engine if it is tripping brought it to service center, check also the lubricant oil,if neccessary change oil.have a nice day and fix my rate thanks a lot.

Generally, the pressure switch is not adjusted more than once or twice in the life of the compressor since the discharge pressure can be adjusted with pressure regulator. However the life of the compressor can be increased if lower pressure settings are maintained. Your pressure switch was set at the factory to a setting of about 120 - 150. If your cutout pressure is higher than 150 surely lower.
STEP 1: Turn Main Calibration Screw ( center screw with large spring) clockwise to increase pressure and turn counter-clockwise to decrease pressure.

STEP 2: Turn Differential Pressure Screw (small spring) clockwise to decrease cut-in pressure and
turn counter-clockwise to increase cut-in pressure.

Differential Pressure is defined as the difference between cut-out and cut-in pressure. There should be about 7 to 12 psi difference between cut-out and cut-in.
In our shop we rarely adjust more than a couple of turns because these switches are sensitive.
