When the coffee maker reaches temperature and the ''Coffee Ready'' light comes on, steam is discharged into the drip tray via the pressure relief valve and tube assembly. When coffee is made, the water quickly loses temperature and the ''Coffee Ready'' light goes out. I have recently descaled using an appropriate coffee machine descaler and the problem started thereafter. I suspect that a seal in the T-valve has failed, but I don't know why. I have dismantled the machine and inspected the boiler - the element is ok. What appears to be happening is that, as the water reaches temperature, the steam generated is forcing its way back along the pumped cold water supply line, across the T-valve and down the pressure relief tube. I guess the solution is to replace the T-valve, but why should the seals be damaged by the descaler? Is this likely to happen the next time I try to descale?
