HP PS 945 problem

The lens in stuck in initial position, when I turn the move the switch to on position, it makes the starting noise, light the initial screen, makes a noise like it's trying to move the lens out and then shuts down, I'll appreciate if you can advise on this problem.

I have been looking to get my HP 945 fixed, but no one has the parts to fix it.

I can't afford to spend hundreds on a new big camera either.

My HP 945 died just as I was getting ready to add shopping pages to my website. Nasty circle that is - I need a camera to have shopping pages so I can make money and I need money to get a camera - Grrrrrrrrr

From what I can gather, it is a defect in this model of HP's, but the company wont fix it. The gears in the lens that are used for focusing are brittle (or some other defect) and at least one of them is broken from very little use. I babied that camera too so they can't say it is my fault. My camera was always either in it's padded case or on the strap around my neck.

It took amazing photos and I LOVED it, but it cannot focus now and is useless.

I used it for a little over a year.

I can't find the lens gears (or whatever they are called) to even try to get this thing fixed. No one has the parts and without the parts, they wont even attemp to look at it.

SOURCE: Lens Stuck Out.

A camera repairman could possibly remedy the situation. Although a common do-it-yourself trick is to burst the stuck lens area with compressed air. Although I still suggest you bring it to the technician to have it checked...

SOURCE: lens cover stuck open

v12mike--you rock! this did indeed fix my stuck lens cover.  to add on to your solution, i had the top half of the cover stuck shut and the bottom half stuck open.  to get the bottom half to the shut position, i covered the lens with a little piece of paper and then used tweezers (VERY gently) to ease out the inner segment (segment 2 i think by your account), and held it in place as i reset segment 1.  this did the trick!
appreciate your help immensely....cheers!

My LG dvd player, says loading and eventually disc error, even when there's no disc inside, I dismantled the motor and dvd flexi beld

Oh dear sounds in mess sadly more so with you taking it apart as they are sensitive to static electric which can damage it.
I will try though, I think its too late, first get the remote out of sight of your player (a damaged remote can fire duff signals which bother equipment).
Next check that its machine buttons push and "click" not stuck in/on this can annoy a machine make it react badly.
Now the next is very tricky and I assume you have put it back together!
With it turned off DVD's and CD players have a small hole on their fronts (unless its real old then can be underneath) which a small stiff wire or tool is pushed to get its tray open if a disc gets stuck. A 1mm drill bit may work or similar diameter prod/probe, the idea is to enable you to open and gently pull out its drawer.
With this done and it all its wires back from any dismantle you may have done, power it on.
1) the tray should go back in set its load switches and make the optics take up"start position" moving near to turntable plus lens can be seen moving with red glow (DO NOT LOOK AT LIGHT ABOVE IT only at SIDE).
2) the tray does not or badly moves but a whirring noise is heard, mostly a belt drive tray type and it has stretched needs a change, see also if lens lights and moves as above, IF NOT ditch it.
3)It does not move with no noise maybe with erratic displays no laser or lens action then very bad fault, in short not worth repair, ditch it.
More than this it will require expert help which an average person is not equipped to handle not only in adjustments but many I find need re-lubrication because of grit, debris or grease gone stiff.

Hope it helps.........

Unit says hello

This problem is normally caused by a dvd player with a dirty lens that it cannot read or detect a dvd in the player. At the same time if this is a dvd/vcr combo a vcr that will not load or is stuck can cause the problem. These can be checked by taking the screws off the unit and taking a look at the position of the dvd laser lens or the vcr position to see if it is in the fully eject position. The part that holds the laser lens to read the dvds can be moved manually back and forth to dislodge it from a stuck position with the power off. Depending on how long it sat around it could just be stuck. You see when you first turn the power on to the unit initially or try to eject a dvd, it will cycle through and try to read a dvd even though there is not one there on power up. If that assembly that moves the lens to read the dvd cannot move, it will cycle off and turn itself off even though you try to reset it with the power button.
A transistor on the power supply can also cause this problem but without taking signal and voltage measurements it would be difficult to pinpoint the exact one. So try moving the laser lens assembly manually and then turn it back on. Let me know. Good luck.

Hp photosmart 945 lens is stuck

Looks like the large lens cannot get it's lense out with the electric drive. This is operated by a little motor with gears. The clicking sound is from gear-teeth. Your guide shaft (3 of them) may be blocked by sand or dust or broken guide-pins.
Once the large lens is fully out. The small internal lens will be moved in and out for zoom. I have recently fully dissassembled my broken HP945 which was fallen on its lens in extracted mode (under charge from docking station). If you want pictures how it looks inside, let me know.

HP 945 lens stuck out, red light on steady, white screen

Ok, here's a couple of long shots to try...
If there is a backup battery remove that also and let it sit for some time with the power switch in the on position (if it has one)
also check the battery contacts are clean. Refit both batteries and try again.

Beyond that unfortunately it sounds like a main board failure. If you have any warranty on the camera return it, if not its likely the cost of replacement would be fairly high but worth checking with HP.
If your handy and fancy a go at it yourself it may be worth opening it to check nothing has become dislodged, but this is unlikely. else pick up a faulty one off ebay, one with a broken LCD or lens and have a bash at swapping the main board out yourself.

Before opening a digital camera its recommended you let it sit for some time (like a week) with no batteries in. There ia a large capacitor (like a battery) which can be charged up to 300v if you touch the contacts or anything connected to it it really is like a shock from the mains.. I have been bitten many times...
This can damage the delicate parts within because of high voltages but more often because you almost always drop the darn thing..
Best of luck

Makes grinding noises, refuses to scan; WinXP

take a look on the underside of the scanner. there may be a switch that goes from lock to unlock. try to move it to lock and back into unlock. this lock is usually used to lock the bar from moving during shipping. if this got moved back to lock or bumped while you had it turned over, the scanner will not allow the bar to move.. try this first.

Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-S40 Digital Camera- lens is stuck

The lens assy. has gone bad if it is making noise. If it is only stuck and not moving the power supply link is broken and supply is not reaching the lens assy motor. May be the SMD fuse would have blown in power supply circuit. May be you can seek the service manual from me and this calls for highly skilled workmanship and tools.
