    We have the same exact problem. TV is about 3 years old. We had to replace the lamp recently, and the blue started in the corner and is now all throughout the middle of the screen! Help!

    sounds exactly the same - starte in lower right hand (as you view it) corner and is spreading upward and outward. Can't seem to locate anything about convergence in online manual - I don't have the original.

    Thanks to user Varian, we called the Hitachi Customer Relations number he passed along on April 7, 2008, had a tech confirm it was the light engine, replacement part received on April 10, 2008, tech picked up - fixed and returned it for a flat fee of 347.00. On April 14, 2008, we are watching a beautiful new picture. By the way, our 50v500 is 4 1/2 years old and started noticing the problem about 8 months ago - thanks to, I'm not sure the picture isn't better than when we first purchased our TV.

    I've started noticing the same thing... my blue 'blob' starts at the bottom of the screen and spreads up. I'll call the number given here for Hitachi & report back my results. Thanks to all for posting to help get this fixed!

    I have the same problem on our 50V500. The whole right margin, about inch wide, is blue, AND there are blue speckles scattered about the middle of t he screen. I am following the instructions posted here by other users, which is consistent with the what the local Hitachi certified TV repair shop told me today. I understand Hitachi is graciously providing replacement light engines, to be replaced by certified technicians. Will get back to you with the result. I hope this works. After spending $2800, I was hoping to get more than 3 years out of this TV.

    Same problem. Started with a blue spot ( top center of the screen)

    and now has spread to the size of a basketball. 3 month development.

    I have not try to do any maintenance.

Julie, go into the fixya website and put in the search engine "Hitahchi red cloud". If have posted some repsonses to the same thing that happened to us and how it can be fixed.

    You have a defective light engine and you do not have to be under warranty for Hitachi to replace this part. We just went through this and here's what you need to do. Call Hitachi's customer relations department at 800-654-7013 and tell them that you have a defective light engine. They will act like they've never heard of this problem but they have. They will give you the names of some certified dealers in your area to call. Once a tech comes out and confirms that it's the light engine, call Hitachi back and they will send a brand new light engine to the dealer and Hitachi will cover the cost of the part (cost $1500).

    Here is the deal, if you're under warranty, Hitachi will cover the part and the install. If you're not under warranty, all you pay is the install. Our install cost $400. Others on this site have paid $200. Do not let anyone tell you that you have to pay for the light engine do not. Hitachi has not recalled this part but they are replacing it for free. Also, deal only with Hitachi customer realations number that I listed. Good Luck

This is an Optical Block (Light Engine) problem. Call a good TV Tech for an estimate.

I see a very large red spot on my screen now. I just replaced the lamp and it seem OK. Now I get a large red spot with no indicator lights. Is there a pending problem?

Bright blue spot in the upper middle of the screen

Light Engine is bad, Hitachi might replace it for free if you had a repairman diagnois the problem

Blue Streak

I had the same problem w/ the same TV about 6 months ago. You need a new optical engine. Hopefully you are still under warranty. Once that was replaced, the tv looks great.

TV Problem

It is a failure in the light engine itself. You will need to have it replaced. Here is a link to that rather costly part.
