I had the same problem. My Xmp3 would just continue to say "powering up", but never fully booted. It did play normally in the dock however. I gambled and replaced the battery, and it seems to work fine now. FYI, take your time in shopping for a new battery. They aren't easy to find, and they vary quite a bit in price. I had to wait about a month XM Fan Store to get them in stock. But once it got here, it worked fine.

Most probably due to overcharging and heat the firmware has becomme corrupt or any of the chip has becomme damaged. Try to re-install the firware.

XMp3i is stuck on "powering

Bad TSOP flash chip. No way to fix without disassembling, removing the flash chip, and placing a new flash chip on it. Doing so requires a donor radio (with another issue), and will change your XM Radio ID. You'll also need to have a hot air (or IR) rework station for desoldering the old chip, and a soldering iron for placing the new chip on the radio.
I'd say give pioneer a call since it's a design flaw, and a VERY common issue. My best guess is that it's caused by excessive heat & defective chips.

When i turn it on it displays "please wait" but nothing else happens. I have had the GEX-XMP3 player for about a year and half. Is it toast? I've switched out different craddles, but I...

Try pulling the battery for 15 minutes, this should give you a "soft reset". Then try to use the XMP3 in portable mode, so you take the dock out of the station. See if this helps you to boot up, then see if you can go through options/settings and run a factory reset.

Portable gex-mp3 gets stuck on powering up

The battery is definately the problem. I have seen many times in this device in particular - the battery shorts to ground - and causes the unit to malfunction.

Pioneer Model GEX-XMP "please wait" problem

Remove back cover and leave battery in. There is a tiny hole that you can use a small paperclip to do a RESET. After that, plug your AC adapter directly into the bottom of the radio. Go to MENU and select "SET FACTORY DEFAULTS". Then turn off, wait a minute, turn back on again and select "mode" to see if you can hear your prerecorded music. If these don't work, then you likely do have a defective unit. Let me know how this works for you - okay?

Volume control

Remove the back battery cover only. Turn unit on. Insert a tiny paperclip thru the tiny 'reset' hole on the back of the unit inside the battery compartment. OK?

I connected my Pioneer GEX-XMP3 player through the auxillary terminals on my Bose Wave radio and the sound is very low. I connected it as stated in the satelite radio book. Help!!

Hi have you set the vlume of the MP3 player to its maximum? You need to do so since the AUX input behind the unit does accept fix line input as standard.

Glad to be of service...

Pioneer GEX-XMP3 stuck in the power up mode

Just off the phone with Pioneer customer service. Apparently a "software glitch" common enough that an internal memo has gone out to replace units under warranty without further trouble shooting. The last step in the process was to remove the battery, place in the original charging cradle without the battery, and hold the power switch down for 10-15 seconds; if the "Please wait" message continues, the unit is defective.
