If you are using usb ports, some devices need a highspeed 2.0 usb port to work properly.
a pci card with usb 2.O can be added for about
$10

Not detected

Hi,

1stly try the Kingstone in another PC - if it works in another PC you have 1 of 4 problems:

1] You are using a very old version of Windows and therefore would require drivers for the memory stick. (i.e. Windows 95 or Windows 98)

2] Your USB ports are faulty - try the ports at the back of the PC instead of the ones in the front if you have not done so already

3] There is a virus on your memory stick and it is attempting to load an executable file when u plug it in and that is causing it to fail.

4] It is detecting fine but you cant read it because the FAT (File allocation table) is damaged in which case it will need to be formatted.

I will need some more info though - for example:

Does windows say "Hardware detected" when u plug it in?
Are you getting any lights flashing on the memory stick?
What do you see when u click on my computer? Does is show up at all but u just cant open it?

Good Luck

I installed two new 1 gigabyte memory sticks into a Dell Inspiron 6000, which previously only had 2 256 megabyte memory sticks installed. When I first installed the 2 gigs of new memory, the laptop turned...

Once you installed the memory, did you enter into the System BIOS Setup screen? Do this and verify that the system recognizes the newly installed 2GB RAM. This should let the system access the new memory once you boot.

Dell D531 crashes on startup

This could be a software problem, or hardware. You need to determine which. I usually suggest troubleshooting memory first, but the D531 has memory under the keyboard, so in this case try booting from any bootable disk and see if the PC stays up. I like to use Ubuntu Live for my tests. You can get it here:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LiveCD
If that is stable, then your problem is probably in Windows and you will need to reload from disk. Make sure you backup any files first.
If your PC crashes off of the LiveCD, pull out half of your memory and try again. Next, try the other memory. The second stick of memory is under the keyboard. This assumes you have two sticks. Directions for removing memory can be found here.

Unfortunately, there are no drivers available for windows 98. Most of your memory sticks will not work on windows 98. Your best bet is to burn your files on a CD and use that instead.

Downloading software (Twain??)

The download website for your scanner is here:

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=DownloadDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=351&modelid=8008

A TWAIN driver is simply a generic scanner software driver that your specific Canon software can hook into and use.

I recommend starting with this one and see if it installs the TWAIN driver you need:

"CanoScan Toolbox v2.2.3 for Windows 98/Me/2000/XP"
