To reset my 901 XP, I remove the battery as shown on page 3-3 of the instruction manual.
The reset button can now be accessed: it is a small shiny metal
plate, about 3mm by 15 mm located on the left of the battery compartment (closest to the LAN port).
Press the metal plate once with a ballpoint.

The main reset button is NOT accessible normally from the outside, it is situated on the motherboard behind the Windows licence sticker and a hole must me made through the case to access it. See picture....

If you press hard enough on that '3mm X 15mm metallic plate' You will nicely push your screwdriver through the top half of the case and into the screen..;)

9 years late why are folks posting to 9 year old posts. and worse XP and worse, OP
he wants to RESET XP back to Day1 new.
and lost the install disks he did.
leaving what? (XP is not sold now)
upgrades, but I'd bet only Linux works now.
on this old PIG. zero value now. zero.
    bad battery main
    bad RTC coin cell
and I bet bad HDD too, now. that is why value is 0 now.

and is covered in the manual at ASUS.com
but not now its too old now.
what they should do is load Linux on on this old PIG, costs nothing. just work.
W7 will not run on this PIG.
    or newer.
    Vista might,
    RESET OS ,
buy the disk and load it.
    is the only answer here.
some of these old PCs had restore disks new in the box and you lost them for sure.

the manual is here (acer ended this)
at what I call the echo.(mirror servers?)
    https://www.manualslib.com/manual/210756...

the chapter is clear on recovery.
Chapter 5 covers this, RTM much?
    5-5 to be specific.
    external DVD drive,
and the Asus recover DVD ,, next.
yes, DVD as it has XP + all drivers and all apps to run this pig.
you then boot the DVD and install virus magnet XP.
lacking your missing disk and drive
you then go shopping for XP say on EBAY
buy it and load it, then spend all week finding SP3, and the missing SATA drivers.
that XP does not support, then pull hair out.
if you find a CD with XP and boot it.
and find no hdd there, that is because
XP does not support most Sata chips made.

this old PC has the lame 20GB SSD.
    so good luck with that.
some of the 901 came new with LINUX.
    and the slug Atom processor

Frozen eee pc 901

I would guarantee 98% that its your harddrive. I had a similar problem w/ one of my older computers. I installed a new harddrive and that fixed the problem.. Stay away from seagate hds, they are junk.
