Most air gaps are set at .010-.012 or basically a standard business card thickness. For actual factory will need the engine numbers.

I have an older 10 hp b&s eng in a gen, eng no243431 0617-11 7511201. I need to know what model to order parts, get spec etc like the magneto air gap. regards glen thorburn & thanks

For the magneto, the rule I always used was put a standard thickness business card between it and the flywheel and tighten it down, then remove the card. This leaves just enough clearance.

Whats the air gap suppose to be set at

Easy way to set that is to put a piece of electrical tape over the magnet on the fly wheel and rotate the fly wheel till it is under the magneto and then loosen the magneto bolts till you can slide the magneto up against the tape, Tighten the bolts, rotate the flywheel out of position and remove the tape. Rotate the fly wheel by hand to check for free clearance all the way around.

On a rhino 660 2005 which timing mark do I use there is 3

ADJUSTING THE VALVE CLEARANCE
Remove:
engine cooling fan
Remove:
timing plug
Check:
valve clearance Out of specification
Adjust.
Valve clearance (Cold)
Intake-0.10~0.15 mm
(0.0039~0.0059 in)
Exhaust -0.15~0.20 mm
(0.0059 ~0.0079 in)

a.Turn the crankshaft counterclockwise with awrench.b.Align the
" I"
mark on the rotor with the stationary pointer
on the A.C. magneto cover. When the

" I "

mark is aligned with the stationary pointer, the piston is at the Top Dead Center (T D C).
NOTE:

When the piston is at the Top Dead Center(TDC) on the compression stroke, thereshould be clearance between the valve stemtips and their respective rocker arm adjustingscrews.

If there is no clearance, rotate the crankshaftcounterclockwise one turn.c.Measure the valve clearance using a thickness gauge

Why does my Briggs and Stratton lawn mower engine crank, back fire, and not start

sounds like you need valves adjusted. either google your engine model number and "valve adjustment", or let me know what the # is and i can try to find a link.

Id like to know if you can test your magneto without a multi circuit tester ? if i am getting spark, is my magneto still good? how do i read the numbers to know what year i in fact have ?

If you are getting a strong, blue, spark on a known, good spark plug, then the magneto is good. If the spark is weak (barely visible), then it is most likely the clearance or rust build up.

The easiest thing to do is check for rust on the surface of the magneto and the surface of the pick-up coil. Emery cloth is good for removing rust on both. Then check for the clearance between the pick-up coil and the magneto. The closer to the magneto, the more powerful the spark (but rotate the magneto to ensure it never touches). When you loosen the screws on the pickup coil to adjust, make sure you have a business card to place between the surfaces to keep them from touching. The strong magnet in the magneto will pull the pickup coil to itself. Tighten the screws and remove the business card. Check for clearance as you rotate the magneto.

The only thing that can go bad in a magneto situation is the pickup coil. So, if you're getting a spark, it most likely is not the pickup coil because it will either produce a spark or won't.

Sounds like its not getting enough fuel. clean the fuel system and the carby. The valve clearances also need to be checked.

I just want to know, what is the valve clearance of my honda wave 100, the clearance of intake and exhaust, and what rotation of magneto to get the TDC.

Valve Clearance: Intake 0.05mm (0.002 in), Exhaust 0.05mm (0.002 in)

There should be a nick or an triangular arrow stamped on the magneto flywheel and another one on the casing. When these two marks are lined up the piston will be on TDC.

Not enough spak-new magneto-plug-all gaps ok

Be sure you have set the magneto at the correct clearance. Make darn sure that the elements for an engine to start and run good are fuel, good air , and a good spark..That clearance by the way should be .010 to .012/ Good luck. don
