I've the same problem and have also tried rewinding & forwarding cassettes-cleaning the heads didn't change the problem either? Is it time for a new video-cam? Mine is only about a year old? The camera has performed excellent up this point. Any help out there?

Someone here recommended on another post to put the lense cap on & videotape the blackness in a quiet room for 5-10 mins. I tried this as a last resort & it worked. When I played back the tape, no more skipping or gray lines. I had 4-5 SOLID gray lines with skipping video & audio in between on every tape I put in. I think the person who helped me solve this said that it was a result of the tape alignment going off. My camera is a Canon zr80 digital camcorder. (Called Canon, they had me reset it & then recommended sending it in).

This sounds like the record heads on the camcorder are worn. The heads can be replaced however it would be considerably cheaper to buy a new camera

Horizontal bands appear on the lcd screen during playback

Can you tell if it is recording them that way as well?

It sounds like it needs a head adjustment. That can be done at any camera store.

Camera won't playback or record poss damaged heads

I think your problem is in the analog to digital converters. They seem to not be working, It is probably cheaper to buy a new camera rather than fixing yours.

Shooting mode will not operate

Your camera has a defective CCD imager. Please return the camera to Canon in New Jersey and they will replace the CCD at no charge to you. This is a known issue and should be covered under extended warranty. Good luck my friend. Joe Weibel
