My 123 cc Yard Machine push mower was working fine last week, now today won't start. I took off the pull assembly and flywheel nut, if mine has a key it's different than the pics I've seen on the internet. The flywheel will turn freely when the gas handle is pulled (which also released the brake) but then it hits a "wall". The brake had an edge that's still touching the flywheel and not sure than it would make a difference.

Ok, the spring will more than likely unravel when you remove the pull cord cover/assembly. There is notch in the spool for winding the rope around it. So make sure the spring is wound enough to fit it in the housing. Then take the rope, already knotted and in the spool. Turn the spool in the direction that tightens the spring.Push down on spool and allow spring to retract the rope. (Don't forget to tie the knot in the rope handle before placing on mower). Then lightly clamp in vise or visegrip, or channel lock pliers. I like to use visegrips on one side, and channel locks on the other. Place over the square flywheel nut, release channelock pliers, hold with fingers tightly so the spring does not unravel. Then release visegrips and hold with other free hand, Place over flywheel nut and slide down. Re-attach with screw previously removed. Your done. Don't forget to tie the knot in the rope handle before placing on mower.
if you have aspare flywheel take the old one off take hood off and then take the nut out off the center of the old flywheel and push the break in so the flywheel dosent magitize to the coil once you do that take olld flywheel off but make shure you dont forget that little key goes in the grove when you put the new flywheel on also make shure that key is as close to the top as you can get it the tighten down ne flywheel put your hood back on and it will start just fine
It sounds like the flywheel key is bent and /or broken. You have to remove the flywheel to check. Remove the part containing the starter rope. Under, you will see the top of the flywheel. Remove the nut holding the cup to the flywheel. If you have a wooden mallot, lift up on one side of the flywheel and rap the shaft with the mallot. If you dont have a mallot, find a nut with the same thread as the shaft. Wind the nut on so the nutis just above the shaft. Now, holding the side of the flywheel, rap the nut with a hammer. You may have to do it several times. When the flywheel comes off, check the flywheel key. It should be in a slot on the shaft. Get a new one and replace it in the reverse order that you took it apart. Please be careful and REMOVE THE SPARK PLUG WIRE BEFORE WORKING ON THE FLYWHEEL!! Good luck...Lee
Hmmmm,,and the plot thickens. Without seeing the unit, i would have to think that when you pull the engine control cable bar, its not releasing the brake that sits against the flywheel. These cables do stretch. Pull the engine cover and you will see the brake against the flywheel. Pull the engine control handle and watch and see if brake is releasing. If its not, replace the cable.
That would be my bet. I hope this is of some help.
sound like timing is off sherd a key in flywheel
take cover off where you pull the rope and then
take off nut off flywheel its going to be tight and hard to get off but can be done take a screwdriver to hold flywheel ones the nut off look around shaft see if flywheel key is sherd
or pry off flywheel be carefull dont damage anything if sherd replace key
the flywheel key is broken.take the recoil cover off.take the nut off that holds the flywheel on.thake a hammer and lightly hit the flywheel oppisit side of key way.the fly wheel will come off.replace the key.replace the flywheel.replace the recoil cover and test run the mower.should be fine.let me know if this helped................
