Question about John Deere A,b,g Tractor Carburetor Float Dltx10
1937 JD - B CARB DLTX-10 I HAVE RECENTLY CLEANED INSIDE PARTS BLOWN OUT PASSAGES WITH AIR, THEY SEEM TO BE OPEN TO ME, A NEW FLOAT W/NEEDLE AND SEAT THEN "ADJUSTED" FLOAT PLUS NEW GASKETS INSTALLED. I HAVE BEEN IN THE BODY SHOP BUSINESS FOR 40 YEARS AND HAVE ALL KINDS OF ENGINE EXPERIENCE,I FEEL LIKE I MUST BE MISSING SOMETHING BECAUSE THIS ONE TENDS TO BACK FIRE ON IDLE EVERY SO OFTEN AND WILL FLOOD OVER AND FILL THE CYLINDERS IF FUEL IS NOT SHUT OFF OVER NIGHT. THIS TRACTOR WAS RESTORED BY MY FATHER OVER 20 YEARS AGO AND IT'S NOW MY TRACTOR IT LOOKS AND RUNS NEAR PERFECT EXCEPT FOR THE DETAILS I HAVE DESCRIBED. I SURE WOULD LIKE TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM , I KNOW IT'S A GOOD IDEA TO SHUT THE FUEL OFF WHEN PARKED AND I DO THAT BUT I FEEL IT MAY BE SPILLING OVER JUST ENOUGH TO CAUSE OTHER ISSUES WHILE IT'S RUNNING, DUNNNO THAT'S WHY I'M HERE.

How old is your ? Sounds like ignition problem,If your engine is older you would have points when the points are bad they can stick together and will result in shutdown after unit cools a little it will restart !

When it shuts down crack the fuel cap and listen for the woosh of a vacuum on the fuel tank. If you hear this, clean the pinhole vent in the fuel cap, or replace it. Being partially plugged would cause you to be starved for fuel and could explain your issue, and why it goes away after a period of time.

You may try blowing backwards from behind the fuel filter into the gas line. Not to much air pressure though. Make sure the gas cap is off.

could be bad gas, but it sounds like a choke problem. did it sit over the winter with less than a half tank of gas in it. try putting some rubbing alcohol in the fuel or draining the tank and disconnecting the gas line so you can drain the gas out of the carb. also check the gap of the spark plug and make sure that is correct. when was the last time there was fresh oil put in. also check the air filter, it could be full of dirt.

Testimonial: "Thanks for the ideas. I will try your suggestions. Tractor used for snow blowing during the winter and gas did not stay in it long. Good ideas!"
its likely to be a switch playing you up try hard wireing the switch to see if it stops this cutting out first, do one switch at a time till you fine the one playing up
