Compaq Presario Laptop lost power

By MyEye on Nov 15, 2007

" "
Model 1525 US working with battery and AC Power Supply Adaptor suddenly displayed message that battery was low and I should save work.
The external power supply was connected at the time.
The Power icon disappeared and the low battery icon appeared. I exited nicely. System shut down and will not turn on again without battery.
External Power Supply is good, reading nominal 18.5.
I have disassembled top cover palm rest and am looking at the little battery charger board in front of me. Could that be the problem or is there another circuit on board which would cause me to lose power with the supply connected. System is 5 years old.

Thanks in advance,
John K.

- Thanks very much. I'm in the process of ordering one and also taking a look at the DC-DC converter on board. I wish schematics were available for the motherboard; it would make the job a lot easier!

Same Problem

-   The power icon (a AC plug) mouseover popup on my wife's X1000 will say "On AC power" when the AC adapter is connected. However, it is really running off of the battery. The external inline converter is cold. The laptop will shutdown when the battery is depleted. When it is restarted it then really does run off of AC as the icon is the AC Plug with a lighting bolt-like overlay. The mouseover popup indicates the battery is charging and the % charged. The external converter gets hot to the touch. The bottom of the laptop is hotter while charging compared to when running off of the battery. Same issue is seen with a second battery.-   Guest

I have the exact same problem this time with an ASUS A6KM laptop. When you press the power button on this laptop. Everything seems ok the hard disk starts up but nothing is displayed on screen. As soon as the ASUS bios logo is about to appear on the screen, the laptop shuts down. The same happens when the CD player button is pressed (as the laptop has a function to just play CD's off the CD drive without turning it on). The power supply seems fine it is pumping out the voltage it ought to. Has anyone got an idea of what this might be? People said its the motherboard and I find it hard to believe as these laptops are known for their reliability.
