Miele vaccum cleaner wont run

If dirt or other debris collect around the armature of the motor the stator will no longer communicate and turn. Usually the brushes wear down and need replacement also. Once you replace the brushes and clean the interior of the motor housing, the motor should start up again. AS long as there is no smell, the motor parts are still in tact. You will also need to replace the belt from the motor spindle to the brush.

Bosch vacuum smells

What type of smell are we talking about here?. If you are talking about an electrical smell that more or less just came from out of the blue you are likely talking about a burnt out motor. If you are talking about a musty smell you can buy vacuum cleaner deodorisers to help in this area.

My Hoover carpet cleaner is approx. 7 yrs. old....husband believes motor is shot? Smells burnt when running....fix or buy new???

you are correct, the motor is shot. if you like the machine replace the motor. i would get an est. on the machine from your local vac shop and the go price them. in some cases its better just to get another machine.

Vacume. motor wont spin

Most likely the carbon brushes are burnt out and need replacing. However - I wish I knew how to put this politely - if you don't know enough about electric motors to have checked for this already, you may not know enough to do the job safely yourself. Electricity can kill - be careful!
If you need guidance, post a comment here - and be sure to state make and model of your machine. Good luck!

Ok I would say the belt burnt into if you can turn it on and the motor runs it is the belt . I would pull it apart and replace the belt.

Vacuum shuts off and has a burnt smell

Hi,
Try removing the drivebelt, and try running it to test like this. The brush bar will not turn, but it should function normally without smell at this point. If it doesn't, you may need a new motor as I think the brushes may have worn down - producing an electrical type burning smell.

If it runs fine without the belt attatched, then there is probably a build-up of hair or threads at each end of the roller stopping it turning freely. With the hoover off, check it turns freely and easily. A small metal nail file or similar is usually a good tool to clear it.

If the roller is stiff, the belt will not turn easily, and overheat on the motor spindle - causing the burning smell.

110-220V

You may have burnt up the motor field when it was plugged into a 220V power source. But there are drop down transformers you can get to reduce the voltage form 210 to 110. AS Radio Shack or similar store would have them.
