Problem with thread getting caught under bobbin holder

I have a Janome 625e Sewist that has until now been working well. I tried a foot from another machine because I don't have a rolled-hem foot, and this has caused problems. I have now switched back to a regular straight foot that came with my 625 but the problems continue. From what I can tell, the upper thread is going into the bobbin holder and, after picking up the bobbin thread, is getting caught on the part under the bobbin holder - I think this is called the hook race. This is the piece that holds the black bobbin holder, sitting under the holder and has the silver ring that rotates around the bobbin casing to make the stitch. I have shut down and repowered. I have removed the needle plate and removed errant strands of thread. I have dusted. Thank you.

Have you applied any lubricant to the bobbin holder the one that holds the bobbin? I would suggest using your manual and lube your machine. sounds to me like your mechanism is sticking.

Where do I oil my machine sewist 625e

Look on machine for little red dots with a small hole nearby. Usually these are near the threading points and also on the foot near or on the metal flap. Also they may be under the flap near the bobbin. Make sure you wipe the excess oil off before using.

My janome 625e came with one metal. Do I need to use metal or can I use plastic

Are you talking about feet or bobbins? Did you buy the machine new? Do you have a manual?
In my experience of this type of machine, the bobbins were plastic

Needle up/down button has stopped working - no sound / activity when button is pressed.

Check that the bobbin winder on top of the machine is clicked to the left or disengaged.

The bobbin seems to be stuck and will not move...all it's doing is 'eating' the thread...what do i do? Thanks

Can you get the bobbin out of the bobbin holder? unplug the machine, then remove the needle plate, needle and pressure foot. Now can you get the bobbin out? It is possible that the bobbin holder has moved in the rotary hook, they can jump sometimes as held in by a magnet.

Check out your manual for instructions to remove the bobbin holder, it should show you how to take it out, and then clean under it, there is possibly thread caught in this area causing the malfunction.

You may find turning the fly wheel a little to turn the hook will help to free up the holder and get it out.

Here is image from my Janome 6500 manual, it should be similar for your MC.

So clean out the underneat of the bobbin holder, then reinsert it, and reassemble, thread and test. If this doens't sort the problem, then time to drive it to the Janome shop.

Does a Brother walking (quilting) foot fit a Janome 625e? If so how do I attach it?

More than likely. You mount the walking in place of the regular foot. You just have to attach the fork over the needle clamp screw at the same time.

I have a Janome that looks similar to the Sewist 625e and is 25 years old. The underneath threat of the stitch is knotting up underneath. I have checked that I have threaded top thread correctly. I...

Hi. It may be that you need to adjust the tension. Put a different color thread on top than is in the bobbin and sew a couple of inches, then check. I suspect you'll find that the top thread is the one that is loose and knotting up. (It's hard to tell unless you're using two different color threads.) If that's the case, your upper tension needs to be tighter. Tighten it just a bit, then sew a few more inches and check again. Repeat until you don't see any of the top thread on the bottom (or maybe just a little bit) or the bobbin thread on the top (or maybe just a little bit.).

Hope this helps!
