My Sony trinitron tube Tv 36" seems to be going (its 10 years old

no ....the tube will end up after 20 yrs in 10 yr old sony...
it is worth if u fix it. randomly going black means...horizontal driver trans former is the problem..or any loose contact with the 110 volt supply to that transformer,,or any loose contact with line o/p transformer.. (horizontal driver transformer may be gone
then tv behaves like this) if any other parts gone tv wont come back.... there may be a loose contact call a service pro..

Probably going to cost more than a new one is worth, and then you have still got a "Fixed" unit & in my experience once things start to fail there often is a domino effect. Still if you can get a free "Quote" for a fix, get one and see?

10-year-old 32" RCA PIP TV just blinked off one morning after about 30 minutes. It makes a continuous high pitch sound, and the on/off switch is completely unresponsive. I assume this is a picture tube and...

It's not the picture tube(especially if image was good b4 it went dead). The high pitch noise is the power supply whinning because it's shorted or overloaded. I just fixed one of these sets - replaced the horiz. o/p transistor and flyback estimate around $120.00-$160.00

I have a 20yr old cs-3505r picture tube just went out .

If the picture tube is bad (no likely), then the set is not worth repair. If you have no picture, it could be as simple as a bad horizontal Output Transistor or other simple component. In that case it would be relatively cheap to repair. If the picture was good before it stopped, perhaps it is worth the estimate charge at a local shop to find out the problem. Unless it is an obscure failure, the parts to repair it should be available generically and inexpensively. Keep us posted. Dan

16 yr old 25" Zenith..1st colors went yellow/lime now TV is dead

Absolutely not worth repair. You have described a classic symptom of Zenith picture tube failure, and about 99% of the time the main board in the TV is ruined as well. You've gotten good life from the set (manufacturers figure tube life is around 7 years these days), so it's time to replace it.

Toshiba 57" HDTV no red in picture

I had the 65" version of that TV. Loved it, unfortunately it went bad as well. It sounds like the red tube went bad. The tube itself might sell for $400 plus. The installation will take several hours with the alignments which will need to be done. Then after all that you will start to have to worry about the other tubes starting to deteriorate. If there is any red in the picture then the tube is most likely the problem. At tat point I would say buy a new TV. The best bang for the buck if you want size and have the space for it would be the new Samsung or Mitsubishi DLP's. I just installed one at customers house. The 60" Mitsubishi is 1400 at Best Buy Good Luck Rob
