Restart your system first, After this go to the device manager page, then click on add new hardware,- (that is if the CDROM has not been installed automatically when you started the system)-. After this, try and follow on-screen instructions and let it detect it automatically and re-install it for you.

Hope it helps you out.
Goodluck!

Need to install second cd driver in desktop computer

It would be much simpler to remove your current CD-ROM drive, and install a CD/DVD-reader-writer combination drive.

1. Turn the computer off, and disconnect the AC power-cord.
2. Remove the side-panels from the case.
3. Disconnect the "power" and "data" cables from the back of the CD-ROM.
4. Remove the screws holding the current CD-ROM in position.
5. Slide the CD-ROM out the "front" of the case.
6. Slide the new device into place, until the face is "flush" with the front of the case.
7. Screw the device into position.
8. Connect the data and power cables.
9. Reconnect the AC power.

Windows will "find new hardware", and will adapt itself.

Deleted cd-rw/dvd-rom driver

I talked directly with HP about your problem. Unless you can find the driver in system32 or your windows installation disc, you will likely have to reinstall windows. Prepare a backup of all important files on that desktop though, because data loss is possible.
