Question about Yamaha RX-Z1 Receiver
The receiver turns off but I can immediately turn it back on and it will run another 20 minutes or so. I can continue this all night long. Increasing volume does not seem to make a difference
The problem is IC 451, (Yamaha Part # XU814A00) (Number on part PQ05RD11 Made by Sharp). It's a + 5V 1A Voltage Regulator.
It's located at the bottom of the power supply board mounted to the front heat sink. It's a four legged TO220 Package outline. So don't try to slip a three legged 5 volt regulator in it's place. This can cause serious damage and headaches. Change this part and everything should be good.

Yamaha RX-Z1 FIXED! I had the same Problem. After a while it would immediately shut off (within a second). I used the self diagnosis mode by pressing the "STANDBY/ON" key while simultaneously pressing the program right and stereo button. The FAULT code SUM:: 36ED/F6B1 VER:K401IC/L34IC PORT:011100101
Not knowing what these codes meant or how to test the parts or interpret the code. I op-ted to bring it in.... James1957 was !00% right! The the Technician verified the diagnosis code on the spot (apparently you need technician access to yamaha and enter the code and bingo they tell you what parts to change) charged me $150 in 2 hours I was up and running! He said he didn't want to move the 65lb beast on and off the shelf so he fixed it on the spot. If I had this info and the code from yamaha I would have done this fix myself. A very simple fix.
Hope this helps some of my fellow DIYS.
P.S. Here is where I downloaded the service Manual Free (no service codes though...):

My RX-Z1 has the same problem--shutting off after 15-20 minutes. Just bought a used on on Ebay to replace it. I suppose it is a bad power supply
