I have a Husqvarna YTH24K48 mower, it barely moves forward, but does good in reverse, any suggestions?

Might be that you need to bleed the tranny. Or perhaps the tranny has an internal problem. Following are some general notes. Go to the websites and review the tranny instructions.

The Huskvarna YTH150 uses Hydrogear transmission 319-0650, drive model 150071. One place to find parts and diagrams is here:http://www.m-and-d.com/Hydro-Gear_parts....

Hydrostatic Transmission Fluid is actually 10W-50 synthetic motor oil (like mobil). Do not use hydraulic fluid or transmission fluid.

Hydro static transmissions on most lawn tractors are very similar. Most of them are made by one or two manufacturers. Tuff Torq makes a lot of them. They definitely make all the John Deere lawn tractor hydro drives. The lawn tractor manufacturers (like JD) often say they are sealed and not serviceable. That is flat out, a lie. All of the JD hydros, and most all others, are serviceable. A complete line of rebuild/replacement parts can be found at Tuff Torq. Info and instructions can be found there. It's quite likely they made your tranny too.

Additionally, I have found that the mower manufacturers fill them (or spec them) with motor oil, 10W-30W. In the service manual, and at the hydro manufacturer, you are told if your tractor is used in extreme or heavy duty situations it's best to drain the oil and replace it with 10W-50 synthetic motor oil (like mobil). Truth is the tranny should have this oil from the get go. It will give you more power and extend the life of the tranny. The mower manufacturers are all just being cheap. They figure why not, you're the one who has to pay for the early failure. Oh yeah, one other minor detail, the tranny manufacturer also recommends regular oil changes, like every 100 hours.

Virtually all of these trannys have a black plug on the top. You have to remove the tranny from the mower (not a difficult things to do, takes about 30 min). Pull that black plug and turn the tranny upside down for about 30 min to completely drain. Most hold about 2 quarts. Flip it back, right side up, and refill. Install plug and reinstall tranny. Note: under the plug there is often a magnet which collects metal shavings. Lift this magnet out while you have the plug out, clean it and replace it. It may fall out while the tranny is upside down. When you refill the fluid just keep filling till it comes up within a quarter inch of the plug. You may have to go through a bleed process after reinstalling the tranny. The tuff torq site explains the bleed process.

Massey Ferguson (simplicity) 2516 hydro tuff trac trans. Moves good for 1/2 hour then loses ability to move fwd or back at any speed. Eventually loses the ability to reverse completely but will move...

you have a problem in the hydro unit. probably a broken seal that is allowing oil under pressure to escape and build up temp in the unit Suggest you have a massey mechanic inspect and advise the exact cause as it will not be a one off problem

Gt 245 lawn tractor won't go forward or backward

Check the drive belts first. and make sure the hydro release lever is in the correct position. If it is not- you can push the lawn tractor and have the rear wheels turn. It sometimes doubles as a "Forward" "Neutral" "Reverse" lever on other brands of lawn tractor.

The belts should be in their guides and pulley grooves- check to make sure it does not have a hidden break by having the engine off, and pulling on the belt.

Lastly, check to make sure the hydro itself is not out of oil or low on oil. It uses low viscosity "HyGard" oil. Capacity if you drain the old oil out and refill is 4.6 quarts. Look for a leak if the level is low.

If it still does not move, make sure the levers are set so you are in forward motion positions, and push- if the rear wheels move there is a problem in the hydro unit.

Cadet LT 2042 worked fine changed hydro filter by lifting front with hoist to vertical. Lowered and topped off fluid. Now wont go forward or reverse. Makes no noise when pedal is engaged to move either...

You will have air in the system and will need purged. To do that you jack up the wheels to where they will turn freely then disengage the hydro and at an idle alternate forward and reverse for a for about 4 or 5 minutes. Recheck the fluid level and top off. Now engage the hydro and do the same forward and reverse for 3 or 4 minutes. You should have axle movement at this point. Hope this will help.

I have a stanley HYDROSTATIC (no shift lever , just forward and reverse foot pedal,) riding mower , looks like new , bought it used , rebuilt carb , runs great now butttttttt,,,,,when I took it out in...

I have several ideas, but I don't think you are going to like any of them. Fluid pressure in the forward flow is low. Possible causes: 1. Internal seal failure in the trans.
2. Trans fluid is low - has leaked out
3. Trans fluid is thin.
Any of these repairs require major transmission service or trans replacement. For the most part, Hydro transmissions are worry free. When they do have a problem, the recommended repair from Hydro is to replace the trans. They do not have a fill or drain plug, with the exception of having a vent, they are sealed. I have heard of people filling thru the vent, but not always with success and there is no way of knowing when it is full.
Sorry.
