Hello

Check your home circuit breaker and the wall outlet.. try plugging in another appliance into the outlet to see if it works.

Listen carefully to the fridge for a two or three minutes. If you hear a buzzing and click sound. Then power is getting to the compressor but it isn't running the refrigerator. You may have to replace the compressor

Kenmore Pro 401.40483800 88 error code noted on fridge. Is not cooling freezer or refrigerator side.

The knocking usually means the compressor has come loose inside the housing. this is not necessarily an indication of failure but the motor in the compressor is isolated from the ground.

I have a newer side by side kenmore that stopped cooling. the power and lights work fine and the fan seems to be working?

you need to replace the rtc contactor overload module,it is located on the compressor body and is held on by a spring wire, when replacing all you need to do is remove retainer spring and unplug the rtc overload and plug new one in,this supplies power to operate the compressor and also protects it

Refridgerator is not cooling but freezer is working fine.

check the back of the refrigerator, you will most likely notice two compressors. one should be bad and has stopped working. you can get it replaced and the refrigerant refilled.

otherwise, check to see if the two compressors are working (if affirmative) then, there will be a damaged or ruptured tube where the refrigerant must have leaked away.

have this checked out and repaired.

thirdly, the cut-out may be bad or their is an electrical connection fault to one of the compressors. have this checked and corrected please.

Freezer works Refrigerator will not cool down

The compressor should be OK this time because you caught it in time. But if the condenser fan stops you need to consider replacing the fan. I have had refrigerators do fine until the fan motor warms up and you are away, it stops. Don't think you should use the refrigerator until the fan is fixed. Sea Breeze

Side by side refrigerator and freezer not working, (fan not working either)

Hi,
This doesn't sound good does it?

The good news is that the compressor at the back, is probably fine, it's just waiting for the signal to turn on.
First, try adjusting the controls from minimum to maximum to see if you can get any life out of it.
If you have no power to the display, please state this.
If it does function - but not properly, please state this.
If there is no action at all, I suspect there is a fault on the main control board, or the motor run capacitor is faulty. With a faulty capacitor, you may get a 'click' when first turned on, and the compressor will buzz or get warm without actually cooling.

Hopefuly this will help, but please get back with more information.

Thank you.

Compressor hums and shuts off

This sounds very much like a compressor failure. unplug the refrigerator and check the condenser for cleanliness. After cleaning the condenser and allowing the compressor to cool, plug it back in and listen for the same sounds. If the compressor was overheated it should restart after it cools. If it does not restart the compressor could be seized. Check the compressor warranty against the age of the refrigerator.

Not cooling

- Check if there power is a supply by opening the door of fridge, if there is a light then there is a supply. But no light check the circuit breaker. Or try another outlet for testing. If your fridge is digital control and there is some error display, then reset the error.
- Check the thermostat setting if set to high cool, and check the compressor at the back of the unit if running, if not there is something wrong to your control or compressor itself, if the compressor is operating and no cool at all maybe your unit is out of refrigerant, please call a qualified technician.
