When you get a burning rubber smell, the drive belt is usually slipping on the motor due to friction on the brushes. Remove the belt and free all the tangled hair to allow the brushes to rotate very easily and then put a new belt on.

When running it smells like something is burning

Hi

If it smells like burning rubber, then your belt is probably slipping due to having lost tension and needs to be replaced. If it's another smell, it could be the motor burning out, but that is often accompanied by smoke. There could also be something caught around the revolving brushes in the cleaning head. Lie the vacuum on it's side and make sure you can spin the brushbar freely by hand. Also check for any debris entangled in or obstructing the brushes. This would also cause the belt to slip resulting in a smell of burning rubber. It could also damage the motor so I suggest not using the vacuum until the source of the fault has been determined.

Instructions on replacing the belt can be found in your user manual. If you don't have one or need further instruction on how to do this, please post back for further assistance.

Regards,
BElectric.

The thing is soo loud its really squalling

If you smell any burning smell like rubber it would be the belt slipping or something jambing the brush. If not then it is either something jambed in the motor or the fan of the motor or the brushes and or armature on the motor are going, which if its the last one you would need a replacement motor.

The belt is probably worn and slipping, that is why it smells. Here is a link to the owners manual which has instructions and a link to the belt you need.

Eureka boss power plus

I had this same problem. The brush roll wouldn't spin, smoke came out, and it smelled like burning rubber. I changed the belt thinking that would fix the problem but it didn't, so I took the belt back off and checked the motor shaft in the back and found a whole bunch of hair wrapped around the shaft. Once I cut out the hair with some scissors and replaced the belt, everything worked like normal. I hope this helps.

Burning rubber smell means the brush belt need attention. Make sure the brush is turning freely and replace the belt

Did you check the brush roll when you changed the belt? The smell of rubber would inducate a belt slipping. So if the brush roll (part #61308-2)isn't turning, the belt would get hot and would be slipping. If the motor sounds real loud, then you could have a bad motor(part #60775-4).

Burning smell and smoke

When you turn it on....is the belt turning the brushes? Something may be caught causing the brushes to stick and the belt to just grind the brush assembly.

Burning smell/lost suction

Is the brush roll turning while on the carpet. If the belt is old, then it has stretched and will slip causing a rubber smell. But if it is an electrical smell, then your motor is failing and will need to be replaced.
