Still can't get access to the Router

I have had no success in trying to access the Netgear WPN824 Wireless Router by typing in http://192.168.1.1 in the browser or going from the START menu and using the Run tab. The wizard starts and Identifies my Internet Connection and the fact that I have DCHP but after hitting the NEXT tab I waite hours and the entire page never loads and nothng happens.

Do I have to get a Setup CD and if so does anyone know where I can get a new one or at least a copy can be email or even mailed to me. LOL!

    Hi,

I recently bought a refurbished rangemax wpn824 (version 1, I think) and am having the same trouble. I have tried everything you suggested in your solution and it still hasn't worked. I even tried phoning netgear, but because my router doesn't have a serial number they won't help me over the phone.

I reach the page that asks "Does your internet require A login?" I leave the settings as "Get dynamically from ISP" because my ISP who is Virgin Media (I am from the UK) said that they don't use a static IP address. When I click on "Apply" or "Test" the page loads, goes blank for a second and then returns me to the exact same page. It just doesn't install it. I am just so confused and want it to work.

    Gary.

Hi,

By your post/description that the wizard starts @ 192.168.1.1 and it can identify your Internet Connection indicates that chances are, there is nothing wrong with your Netgear RangeMax WPN824 Router. Clicking on the Next tab does not make your browser go to the subsequent page is perhaps a problem with your browser and not with the router. You can try tweaking your browser:
• In Mozilla, click on Tools, Options, Advanced tab, Network tab, Settings button, tick "Auto-detect proxy settings for this connection, OK, OK;
• In IE, Tools, Internet Options, Connections tab, LAN settings button, check "Automatically detect settings", OK, Advance tab, check Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections.
• In Opera, Tools, Preferences, Advanced tab, Network, Proxy server buttons, check "Enable HTTP 1.1 for proxy, OK, OK.

Alternately if this doesn’t work, try manually configuring your PC’s Network settings:
Click on Start, Control Panel, Network Connection, right click on the networking icon (that is used to connect to the router; WiFi or LAN). Click on Properties button, highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), click on properties button (mid right). In the General tab:
• tick "Use the following IP address"
• Enter values as shown below -
IP address: 192.168.1.201 (201 can be any number from 2-254 that is not in used by any other PC in your Network)
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1
DNS servers: as provided by your ISP
click on OK, OK, Close.

Additionally, you can try right clicking on the Networking icon (bottom right side) in your Systems Tray and click on Repair.

Worst case is you try and do a hard reset of your Netgear RangeMax WPN824 Router by pressing the small Reset button at the back or bottom for a couple of seconds or till the LEDs flashes. Pls be reminded that a full/hard reset will revert all router’s configuration to factory default.

Should you still need the setup files, they are available at the NetGear site here (depending on the version number). Further manuals, instructions and other documents for this router is available here.

Hope that this be of some help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Instead of changing the NAT type, it is effective to forward ports on the router for your PS3. Perform the steps as mentioned in the below link:

NetGear RangeMax WPN824 Wireless Router (WPN824NAR) Wireless connection drops in and out regularly but frequency of this is unpredictable duration is usually a few seconds. Works find on direct ethernet...

Upgrade the Firmware of the router :
First you should check the version of you WPN824 (v1,v2 or v3). If there are no Version after the model number, it should be a version 1. Download the Firmware of your router given the correct version at this link :

http://kbserver.netgear.com/products/WPN824.asp

This is assuming that other wireless laptops has the same problem onyour wireless router. If other Laptops works great on your wirelessrouter without dropping any wireless connection, then you shouldconsider upgrading the wireless adapter on you own laptop.

Steps on how to upgrade Netgear firmware :

  1. Download the correct file depending on your location and unzip the file to a convenient place such as your desktop.
  2. Log in the router at http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1 (or www.routerlogin.net ) (Which ever will work)
  3. Default User name : admin / password : password
  4. Click Maintenance > Router Upgrade.
  5. Click Browse and locate the file you just downloaded.
  6. Click Upload. While the firmware is loading, do not interrupt the upgrade process.
