Convection oven temperature is not stable, or does not match desired temperature setting.

Evaluated by service technician. Probable cause is defective control circuit board, likely an open or intermittent electrical connection or circuit board trace. Is this a repair that can be performed by someone familiar with such repairs? More specifically, is the circuit board easily accessible without pulling the whole oven out from the wall?

SOURCE: The interior light on my microwave convection oven doesn't light.

If there's no obvious removable cover over the bulb (and the owner's manual doesn't address it) some disassembly may be required.

Always unplug a microwave before removing or installing any bulbs.

On an over the range type, remove the vent grille across the top and see if bulbs can be accessed there. There may be a panel on the bottom covering the light(s), instead.

If not, chances are you'll have to remove it from the wall, then remove the outer cover. If so, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

You can download GE owner's manuals and installation instructions here.

Once it's out of the wall, the outer cover (wrapper) will need to be removed, just as you'll need to do on a counter top model.

Be sure to put all the screws back in the right holes, since some may be special grounding screws.

Bulbs can be had in most grocery stores, hardware stores, home improvement centers, and big box or department stores.

Many models use halogen lamps. You must not touch the new one with your bare skin, as the oils will shorten the bulb life.

Excellent camera work! This is very helpful.

That door you mention is part of the "damper assembly".

In that damper assembly is a damper switch which detects the position of the damper door.

If the switch goes bad, or there's some kind of obstruction of the damper door, the control board will try to run the damper motor to close or open the door, as appropriate, depending on whether you're cooking in microwave mode or speedcook / convection mode.

It's not listed as a separate part, but that damper switch should be the same kind as the upper and lower door switches to the left of the control panel.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes. Maybe you saw that already?

If you only need a switch, you can order a universal type here for $5 postpaid.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number) for more information & help.

SOURCE: Burning Smell in microwave/convection oven

Assuming your inside light and turntable come on when you try to microwave, with the symptoms you have, I would most strongly suspect a shorted high voltage rectifier diode or a bad magnetron, or a loose and possibly corroded connection on the magnetron's terminal.

If it's within the magnetron portion of the warranty (usually 5-9 years) but out of the original full warranty (usually 1 year), then your manufacturer will cover the part cost, but not the cost to visit you or the labor charge to do the work.

GE Customer Service is here.

Otherwise, the diode is a fairly cheap fix, and the mag will cost more.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical safety information and disassembly information at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa.

The problem that you are having is that the magnetron inside the microwave is shorting out to ground and it will find the shortest path to reach whatever has metal in it. Replacing the magnetron will solve your problem altogether and you need not do anything else different and continue using your metal racks.

SOURCE: Need to know how to remove Advantium 120

Usually there are 3 or 4 mounting bolts located in the floor of the cabinet above. First you will have to disconnect the power and then the duck work if the unit is ventde to the outside. To remove the unit requires two people, one to support the unit and the other to remove the bolts. If you are doing it alone, quite difficult, you'll have to juryrig a deadman support. Ther is a wall plate behind the unit that has a lip that the back bottom of the microwve is locked into. After the bolts are removed slowly lower the front until you are able free the unit from the lip of the support plate.

Why does our GE jt910 oven not heat consistently when baking cookies. the first batch is ok but second batch is always over done?

Buy a small oven thermometer and check the temperature of the heating oven over time. It may not explain it, but you can better adjust the dialed temperature to match the desired temperature.

Only heats part of the time

A few possibilities pop out at me: Could be a door switch or the thermal fuse monitoring the mag tube's temperature. Time for a service technician to look at it, or, if it were me, I'd just buy a new microwave.

My Sharp microwave convection oven (R-967M / R96STM) cuts out during convection pre-heating and cooking, It appears it stops heating after 1 min. If the START button is pressed again the oven starts...

Also the fact it is a convection oven could mean the oven temperature sensor is not picking up the oven temp. it is not telling the machine it is there by the board seeing its resistance, the unit will shut off as a safety feature. The oven sees temperature by reading the value of a temperature dependent resistor. As the temperature changes so does the value of the component ( oven temp sensor) that way the unit determines the temperature inside the unit. Sometimes those sensors will break since they are in the area with the heat and moisture, they get old and break.

Convection Preheat doesn't reach the Chosen Oven Temperature

I would first suspect the thermister (thermistor) or a low line voltage, weak control board relay etc.

But the service manuals will show you how to safely disassemble, test and repair the unit.

We have the service manuals for this model and have uploaded them to our site here and here to help you.

You will need the
free Acrobat Reader to view or print them in case you don't have it.

The best place to order parts for this brand is Encompass (formerly Tritronics). Or you can call them toll-free at 866-779-5835.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number) for more information & help.

GE Microwave/Convection JVM 1090 oven won't reach temperature

You probably have a bad thermistor.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

(At that site, that part is misspelled as "thermister" for your model).

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Accessing some components for testing will require you to remove the oven from the wall.

If so, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

You can download GE owner's manuals and installation instructions here.
