If your car was hydro locked I don't think you wouldn't be able to turn the engine even by hand. hydro lock is when water gets into your cylinders and keeps them from moving. it sounds like you have a problem with your starter not engaging. that is where I would start. also if your car was in a flood you are probably going to have more electrical issues.

Thanks i was afraid at first that it was but i think i need to replace the starter i rembied it already i have to go tomorrow to get the new one but what i dont get is that i had it checked out at auto zone and it worked fine supposedly they say you think is the solenoid?!

  • bradley melland May 31, 2015

the way I understand starters is that inside the solenoid there are 2 circuits a hold down circuit and a pull down circuit. if the pull down circuit doesn't work there is not enough strength in the hold down circuit to engage the gear into the flywheel and the pull down circuit is designed to shut off when the starter engages. I have also heard of starters passing a bench test but failing when they are in the car. if they said it works I would probably try it in the car again if it isn't to difficult before I bought a new one. I attached an picture of a starter I found that should give you an idea of what is in a starter.

That could be true but there's always a possibility you slipped your timing or some thing else try to narrow down where exactly the sound is coming from

Did you check to see if your starter is stuck? If it's a drill noise it sounds like your starter is turning but not touching anything

Have the starter checked in an auto parts store.

SOURCE: 2004 Mazda RX8

Had the same problem today with flooded engine. I tried new plugs ($86.00) and used the clear flood mode but to no avail. Spoke to a tech at the mazda dealership and odd as this sounds it worked. On the right side of the engine on the intake about half way down the runner you will find 2 rubber plugs that cover vacumn ports. The front one is the easier of the 2 to access, hook up a piece of vacumn hose to that port, on the other end you need to hook up a funnel. You will have to adapt the hose up to get it to fit. Remove the fuel pump relay, it is the blue relay at the front of the fuse box and is closest to the radiator. Pour a half to 3/4 quart of transmission fluid in the funnel and have someone crank the engine(with a battery charger or jumper cables hooked to your battery so you won't run the battery down). Leave throttle closed, as the fluid gets sucked down you will here engine compression build and it will act like it is going to start, at that point while it is still being cranked stick the fuel pump relay back in. It should then start, it may spit and sputter but it will run. Remove the hose from the vacumn port and reinstall port plug. The car will smoke for quite awhile but the smoke will finally disipate. From start to finish it only took about 2 min. to get the car started. I asked him if that much fluid would hurt it and he said no. He also said that they see this problem a couple of times a week. He also said that they don't take the plugs out and clean prior to doing the procedure, it will work on the old plugs. This saved me a tow to the dealership and probably a couple hundred dollars.

It is your battery it may not be completly dead but it is too dead to run the starter. It take 300 -600 amp to run a starter and 20 amp to run a stereo

SOURCE: 2004 pontiac grand am service engine soon light

I have the same car and if the gas cap is loos for any reason the service engine light will come on so check that. If it is it will turn off in a few days after you tighten it.

SOURCE: 2004 pontiac grand am car will not start

the security light will flash and disable the fuel injectors preventing the car from starting, if it thinks that it is being stolen. its easy to fix. set the parking brake to turn off the automatic headlights. next turn the key to the on position and wait ten minutes. the security light should stop flashing. then turn the key off and this will reset the security system. it should start immediatly afterwards.

Car wont start flooding with fuel knock sensor code

do you mean the code reader is flooding meaning giving this code tons of times or are you saying the car is flooding out and you also are getting a fuel knock sensor code. The more complete thourough the questions are the better diagnosis can be given. The situation is the knock sensor is just that. it picked up some kind of vibration and in turns tries to protect the engine from any further damage. this is why the car is not starting. Usually this trips the fuel shut off switch and stops the fuel pump from running. Untill you reset the fuel shut off this will not start. Owners manual will explain location and procedure of switch.

Car wont turn on smells like gas

It should not smell like gas unless the engine is REALLY flooded. But todays computer controlled cars won't allow that. I think you have a fuel leak somewhere.

My gsx won't start

Check the fuel system2_bing.gif to make sure it's getting gas. Take the back seat out and turn the ignition on without cranking the car. You should hear the fuel pump make noise for a few seconds as it pressurizes the system and then turns off. If you don't hear anything, it would probably be the pump or one of the two relays on the firewall2_bing.gif next to the master cylinder. I replace the cheaper of the two relays and that fixed my problem.
