Hi, Arleen before testing any electrical component in the Starting System it is "IMPERATIVE" that you have a fully charged battery of 12.5 volts or more and be able to pass a proper "LOAD" test if necessary, you may have a preliminary reading of 12.5 volts or more but little or zero amperage, the battery is faulty and must be replaced. AGM type batteries fall into this scenario more so than lead acid batteries.
1. Ignition Switch not in the "ON" position.
2. Engine Run Switch in the "OFF" position.
3. Check the battery terminals for damage or corrosion check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter.
4. Bank angle sensor needs a reset or is faulty.
5. FOB battery low or dead.
6. Faulty ignition switch.
7. Faulty starter button.
8. Faulty kickstand or clutch pull in switch/sensor.
9. Security alarm needs a reset.
10. Starter relay, solenoid, starter have failed or circuit wiring faulty.
11. Starter armature or field coils have failed.
12. Main fuse or circuit breaker may be blown or faulty.
13. The electric starter is working but starter clutch has failed.
14. Check for engine trouble codes.

Can a fuse cause my 99 Trooper not to start

Answering for ENGINE will not Crank !
Or the starter motor is SILENT !
Is the IMMoblizer lamp in dash telling you why?
good questions, sure it can.!
all electrics on cars are fused, (cept starter main)
lets for get the engine, (for now)
by no lights? that mean head lights are both dead? (if yes we fix this first) {easy}
head lights work key off, so..... is panic fail, prime failure mode.
if you meant the cluster lamps only, why not say so?

if the HL are out, the battery is dead or its cables are rusted (4 ends)
or fuse blow out in main box.

if the cluster lamps are dead and for sure the CEL lamp? then the ECU has no power, and engine will never run with that dead. or IMMO lamp stuck on.
CEL = check engine light if , out,key on, the ECU has zero power.

the radio is dead , is one more prime failure.
head lights win that argument.. but i'd bet cab fuse box are dead due to PCD box under hood dead.

So, open hood, see the PDC (main fuse box)?
you check battery voltage with neg lead of meter to body metal.
it reads:
12.6 vdc or more rested is a charged battery,.
$10 meter at walfart works.
if not, bingo. bad battery cables or ground. (the cables have 4 ends, and all 4 ends can rust or even be loose)

so next check the voltage in the main box at all main fuses.
i'd bet one fuse has 12v on one side and 0v the other is a clearly blown fuse.(there)
if you need a schematic we have it.ask

the symptoms are lost main power.
the tests are easy.
with any cheap voltmeter every made.
got one?, or must we work blind?
Recap:
No cranks (is IMMO active?)
no head lamps, fuses blown for them or mains blown
CEL lamp dead in cluster key on , ECU fuses blown
or cluster fuse blown.

from your limited hints, id say them mains are blown.7388ecf3-ec1e-4fdb-b172-b274fca78a06.jpg25917427-q3trmxyjzvqfc2lfsqsrd2xd-5-2.jpg

FL1 is the main fuse.
got 12vdc on both sides if fuse? if not all is dead. the fuse blows, changing out the alternator not pulling battery neg lug(very common reason)

Riding mower not charging battery

Sounds like a voltage regulator or diode. Do you have a multimeter? If so attach leads of multimeter to batt terminals, red lead to pos and black lead to neg. Start unit and observe meter readings. Then move throttle to high and continue to observe. You should have 12-14 volts on meter reading. If not your regulator or diode is bad. Message me back after doing this and I can continue to help you. Also, make, model and serial number of engine would help too. Good luck!

When turn on it blows the fuse

There must be a diode that is faulty in the power supply section mainly on of the rectifying diodes.
If you look closely at your board you will see four diodes that just after the fuse and befroe the Big capaictor(filter cap.) One of these four diodes must be faulty as the fuse keeps blowing. the diodes are responsible of current limitation drawback. So there must be current flowing back to the fuse that makes it keep blowing.
Check and replace. Good luck
Thanks for using Fixya.

No power or red led fuse good .toshiba 27df46

Hello Hloggins, hi, your power supply is not producing the pulse needed to start the switching. check for the IC on the oscillator part of the power supply, you need an Oscilloscope to test this. if there is no scope. i suggest you replace the IC.

1993 Toyota Paseo won't keep charge.

the thiree wires usually are, one large heavy dity main wire that takes the charge current, one charge indicator wire and an exiter wire, when a car starts discharging it is usually one of the diodes in the alternator failed, there are usually 6 of these(at least) andthey should be dead short one way and open the other way when they fail they can be lowish resistance both ways and this discharges the battery, it will still show about 14 volts and give out 5/6ths of its rated amps but will drain, the ignition light(or charge light) is just a bulb from live to one diode and unless it is that diode that failed the lamp will work fine. The way to check is to measure the current through the alternator when the car is switched off, it should be very nearly zero

all sets must have rated fuse for protection. some units now use what is called a PICO-FUSE.this type of fuse is soldered into the pc board. usually marked with location i.d. F301,F901,F400. etc. these fuses look like resistors or in-line coils. check continuity w/ohm meter. if new fuse blows as soon as you plug in tv, suspect bridge diode ciruit or main filter cap(large ripple filter by main fuse. if new fuse blows when you try to turn on, suspect 130v regulator or high voltage short(horizontal-output, flyback transformer) good luck!

There is a difference between diodes and capacitors. The role of a diode is to rectify and some cases regulate voltages. Meanwhile, a capacitor is there to hold charges. Back to your question, to check an schottky diode, you need an ohmeter with a diode symbol, the reading starts like this .500, .600, .300. 125. still consider good forward bias. .1200 or infinite reverse bias is consider good still. But it shows 0 continuity then that diode is bad. You can also use ohm's law, resistance to also check a diode. Please e-mail me if you some further lesson at Stevebuy31@hotmail.com

Assuming I am looking at the same diagram for a 'Compact' amp....the circuit you are looking at is unrelated to GL1.

The two diodes rectify 10VAC from the transformer to a rectified +12V DC which supplies the mechanism. To blow both diodes I can only assume that you have a dead short to ground or -Ve somewhere.

Check both diodes and fuse are good with the mechanism plug disconnected. You should get 12vdc at the cathode of the diodes.

I don't know about the diodes you are using but 1N4001 or 1N4002 or 1N4003 should work fine.

The 12VDC comes out on pin 2 and pin 4 of the mechanism plug. Make sure the diodes are the RIGHTway round or you'll end up with MINUS12V.
