Thank you first person that has provided a model number sounds like you already changed the lid lock assembly if you did you know how to get the top up inside the front panel is a tech sheet it will tell you how to place the unit into diagnostic and read the lights for an error code recheck your connection at the control board a flashing lid lock would should give and F5E1 or F5E2 error code also check the alinement of the tab on the lid where it goes into the lock assembly should be a smooth transition

Its normal for the machine to cycle the lock before starting its cycle. I'm assuming your machine is a bravos style.

You have not mention anything about the group. Did you try to take it out and put back again. If the problem insist this mean from your description that the clunk is from group motor gears or even the motor gear it self.
In this case the machine must be desasemble in order to find out which part brocken.
If you can remove group and put back again and nothing happents then switch it of and proceed as above since it might just one gear and by replace it the machine will be ok again. However if you try something more then their is a chance to burn the motor also and the cost for repairing it will high and it will be better to thing about a replacement since spare parts are very high compare to a complete machine that might get it from special offers.

In most cases, Its simply the lid switch that has gone bad.
Put your washer on Spin cycle and look for the little plastic peice on your lid that goes into a small opening, if you have this then verify its working by pushing a small screwdriver in the hole, pressing it down.

The washer needs to verify that the lid is closed before it will go into spin mode (Safety for peoplesw hands etc).
If you dont see this then you may have a magnic type switch or one built into the lid itself.
Most local appliance parts stores have this part with a model and make of the washer.

I had the same problem and first checked the instructions in the Epson manual on the red flashing problem, read the following pdfs: Indicator light or problems

I saw the fluorescent lamp come on for a second before the indicator light started to flash red, so I knew that the lamp was ok and did not need to be replaced. Try this turn off the scanner and try unplugging the transparency lid from the back of the scanner, turn on the scanner and see if the light goes back to green. My issue turned out the be the mechanism inside the transparency lid, I kind of heard an awkward noise when I turned on the scanner, but thought it was coming from the base, I rlocked and unlocked the transportaion lock on both the base and lid, to see if that would fix it but it turned out it was coming from the lid, where there is also moving parts inside using a belt and wheels. On the end wheel closest to the front, the 2 little plastic pegs that hold down the square metal plate with wheel broke off, I could hear them inside when I lightly shook the lid, anyways I opened up the lid by removing the 5 screws and you need a screwdriver to put in each of the little openings around the edge to pry open the lid. I removed the belt and metal plate, watch out there is a spring attached to it, don;t forget how this part works when you put it back on, I found both of the little broken pegs and glued them back on with a strong plastic epoxy glue that I bought at Ace Hardware, I let that dry for 24 hours and then put the metal plate and wheel on then put the belt around the wheel, and now everything works fine.
