Do a clean installation from CD rather than simply doing a system restore. There's less chance for something to go wrong with a clean installation. The Stop: c0000218 (registry file failure) error is typically associated with one of several things, depending on how far through the recovery process you made it before encountering the error.
Chances are when you reinstall Windows Xp you will lose your data.
You can recover your data by removing the hard drive from your laptop and plug it into an USB hard drive adapter and connect this to a working computer's USB port. This computer will see this as a external hard drive and you will see the various folders and files.
Copy and or burn your data folders and files to a CD.
Then put the hard drive back into your Fujitsu reinstall Windows XP.
Depending on what operating system you are using, I suggest repairing the operating system. For windows xp here is a guide that you can follow http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm.
For windows vista http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial148.html
This sounds like a previously removed piece of sofware, either a peice of a programme spyware, virus or malware, thats still got the start up files registered.
Download this programme, it's very good, it's free and has no spyware attached, it will remove all traces of unused registry files and temporary files.

If you still have problems click Start>Run and type 'msconfig' without quotes.
This will bring up a window; click the startup tab and see if there are any unrecognised programmes on start up that you no longer use.
