This is a common problem - laptops that refuse to come out of hibernation. Try holding down the power key for ten seconds, then do it again and watch for activity. Next check for a hibernation or sleep key on your keyboard and press that on and off to try to get it to activate.

Failing that, unplug the unit and remove the battery for ten minutes. Then plug it all back together and try to boot up again - it should reboot.

To avoid this problem in the future, right click on the desktop (free space, anywhere), and then click on PROPERTIES. Then SCREEN SAVER and then POWER SETTINGS, and then go through the settings turning off HIBERNATION and making sure entries that say WHEN I CLOSE THE LID or WHEN I PRESS THE POWER BUTTON are selected as ASK ME WHAT TO DO or DO NOTHING. This will keep your machine from entering the endless land of computational nod. :>)

Good luck...

My laptop has went into hibernation and shows a small moon and that the battery is in use. I took out the battery and it still shows it in use. It won't come out of hibernation and won't go back to...

The moon means Sleep or standby mode, if the laptop attempted to enter hibernation and sleep mode at the same time it could just be stuck in a hibernation loop and unable to load.

To test this, remove the battery and AC adapter, then hold your power button down for thirty seconds. Once you've done this replace the battery and power cord then try turning it on.

Let me know how you make out and if it doesn't work provide any other details you can including anything that comes on the screen and any beep codes you hear as it fires up.

Thanks and good luck,

I cant find the hibernate option in my xp os settings. Pl help

Is this system a laptop? If so, you may have a Function (FN) key combination to enable it... which on my Dell is a F2, which has a blue crescent moon on it. So, it would be the combination of pressing Fn+F2 together.

In addition, you may try to enable it using the command line, by executing the following in a command prompt or on the 'Run' dialog.
"rundll32 powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState"

My laptop wont hibernate!

Typically this indicates a problem with a particular piece of hardware or its driver that is not cooperating when windows tries to hibernate. Do you have anything new attached to the system? If so, try unplugging it, rebooting, and see if it cooperates then. Also, have you checked the windows event log to see if windows reports any particular errors when trying to hibernate?
