The flat part of the needle goes toward the back. You may also be using the wrong size needle for your project. Make sure the bobbin is threaded correctly. The bobbin may also need the tension adjusted, small screw on the bobbin case. You may have something lodged, try unthreading the bobbib and moving the large knob on the side back and forth with only the top thread. If there is broken thread etc under there you should be able to see and remove it. I have also used a blow-dryer to blow out dust and fuzz.Remember to oil your machine using the correct oil. Be careful to not force the fabric by either pulling it tight or holding it so that the feed is being forced. There are tutorials at the Singer site if none of this helps you.

I am sorry to say that you may have been taken advantage of. There is no such company as the Tailor Company, per say. There is a company in Poland who produces sewing machines. They are very inexpensive machines. There is a fellow in NJ who has bought up a large quantity of these machines and put on his own name: Tailor. The only way he sells these is by going across the country and advertising in hotel locations that these machines are worth well over $600.00. If you let us know what parts you need for the machine, we could possibly cross-reference it and try to get it for you. Please let me know I can help you any further.

SOURCE: Singer Sewing Machine model 9224. Bobbin thread

If you turn the handwheel, can you see a metal ring rotating around the outer edge of the bobbin case? If not rotating, broken gear or timing belt off.
If that ring is turning, remove the needle plate and bobbin case. As this ring now rotates, you will a finger on the ring that will pass behind the needle from right to left and it should catch the thread from the eye of the needle. If this finger, the "hook" passes above the eye, you have a timing problem.

Let me know.

I have a scholastic 6704 model and I can't get the bobbin to thread. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Please help!!

you may have the bobbin in backwards to the way it's supposed to feed. if your talking about the bobbin not winding on top to fill, you have to push the lever over that the bobbin is sitting on.

I have a Singer Scholastic 6510 and when the needle is going down the thread is not catching.

Remove the bobbin. Thread your top thread just as normal. Now turn the wheel toward you and watch the area where the bobbin normally be. You should notice a sharp object (hook) pick up that thread just as you continue to turn the wheel. If it doesn't pick it up then the needle and hook aren't meeting at just the right time. This will mean that your machine needs to be timed.

There is a screw on the bobbin case which you turn clockwise to tighten but on a quarter of a turn at a time then test sew, make sure the bobbin turns antil clockwise in the bobbin case.

Inserting needle on old singer machine

Hi Terry--

If your machine is 40-50 years old, it might be a Singer Featherweight portable. (If it is, you have one of the very best machines ever made!) On the Featherweights, the flat of the needle faces left (and the needle is threaded from right to left). The bobbin goes in a bobbin case; you'll see a small notch when you look down on the bobbin in the case. That's where the thread goes. I'll email you direct with more information.
