Should the heat pump stop when it reaches temp?

I just had the Mitsubishi Heat Pump MSZ-GE35VAD - installed. It's set on Heat, Auto fan speed and 20 degrees. I notice it continues to pump air into the room when it is at temp. I was expecting it to stop when it reaches temp and restart as required like other heat pumps I have used. Does the Mitsubishi not work like this?

Check to see if you have fan on automatic or continuous run ,it should have a setting so you can get air flow at all times or just when unit runs

Testimonial: "The FAN button is set to the Auto symbol. I cant see in the manual what button or symbol I would look for to know if it was on continuous or not?"

Heater, ac and fan speeds all working fine. Compressor not kicking in...just auxiliary heat working.

Outside temp too low, so outside thermostat and it's settings will not allow the heat pump to work. But insist on the ausilary heat to work instead. Heat pumps usually do not produce enough heat when below 40F outside temp. If you have Gas heat, it may be more economical than the heat pump below 40F. If electric auxilarry heat, it may compete at 32F. Talk to your dealer, installer, or manufacture.

Mitsubishi heat pump blows cool air when set on 70 in heat setting. It will be 3 years old in January.msz-fe18na

Cooler than normal discharge air temperatures are kind of nature of the beast for an inverter compressor system. An inverter compressor has essentially an infinitely variable output due the varying speed of the compressor. When is is running slower the transfer of heat is less than when it is running full bore. At least on a mild day. On a cold day, even running at full speed, the leaving air temperature can feel a bit cooler due to the lack or heat available in the outside air to transfer in to the indoor coil. The Mitsubishi's are capable of running down to 5 degrees above zero without the addition of a low ambient control kit and the nearer it is to that temperature, the lower the leaving air temp will be.

There's only about three more 300 page VOLUMNs of information available to describe the function of these little guys, but maybe just a taste of the info will satisfy your concern. Of course what's written above is a very Cliff Notes version with a lot of holes in the description.....but you get the drift.

Compressor relay switch

What temperature is this heat pump being run at? If it is low ambient temp outside this may be running in what is called defrost mode to where the compressor will run without a call for heat. This seems normal to me as long as the setpoint temperature is being reached.

It's not indicated to turn directly from cooling mode to heating mode. You must wait about two or three minutes before the change. After the spliter start, you must wait few minutes to get hot air.
