SOURCE: poulan pro with tooless chain tightening - chain will not stay on
i have a 4620 poulan that had the same problem. use it for 10 minutes, spend 15 minutes reinstalling the chain. i sent poulan an email threatening to sue them and they decided to send me the parts to change it over to the old style for free. try poulan.com
SOURCE: Ryobi battery chainsaw 10" - How do I tighten the chain?
loosen the two nuts that hold the chain cover on. Once they are just loose, then use a flat blade screw driver to turn the slot that you see right next to the base of the chain. Once the chain is tight, retighten the two nuts.

the nut like end of the tention bolt should fit into a hole in the bar. Then as you unscrew the bolt later one it ill push the bar farther away from the bolt heal thus tightening the chain
SOURCE: need to tighten the timing chain
It has an automatic cam chain tensioner. If you are getting cam chain rattle, I would look at worn guides/chain.
All the saws I use that do not need the cover removed to tighten the chain. If the tightening parts are in the cover you can't adjust the tension with the cover off Other saws the pin is on the saw side To tighten the chain there is a pin that fits into a hole on the bar. Turn the adjusting device to move the bar forward to tighten the chain. If you get it too tight it will not move.
