Given older scope. too dusty inside and out - especially the eyepiece lens. took apart, reassembled, but still (after cleaning) not able to view. without eyepiece in - viewing straight through scope - clear and magnified image can be seen. former owner says she could never "make it work" wondering whether the two lenses in the eyepiece could have been assembled incorrectly. many thanks.

Since you can focus on trees during the daytime nothing is wrong with the telescope-- most objects in the sky are very tiny-- you must be pointed directly at them to see them. During the day line up the small finder telescope on top with the main telescope-- then use the small finder to point the larger "tube" directly at the object in the sky.

Call Galileo telescope:

SOURCE: i dont know how to use the eye piece to get a view
Put the eyepiece with the largest number written on it into the telescope. DO NOT use the 2x barlow if you have one. Go outside during the day time and practice focusing on a distant object.
If your scope is like the picture in your question, the focuser and eyepiece are on the UP end of the telescope. The mirror is the BOTTOM of the telescope, just like in the picture above.
