Question about Emerson EWC1303 13 in. TV/VCR Combo

1 Answer

Emerson Television A VHS tape did something to my Emerson TV/VCR combo. It ejected the tape but now the TV shuts itself off after about 10 seconds. I've taken it to a repair shop before and they reset something but it costs me $80 everytime I have to take it in. What are they doing and can I do it at home (and save myself $80 a year which is how often it happens).

Yup! Same problem. I bought a second hand Emerson TV VHS combo and it chewed up my tape badly. After taking it out, the TV part turns itself off after about 10 seconds and I have hear the sounds from the VHS compartment. VERY FRUSTRATING indeed!

I have an old emerson TV/VCR (Digital Tracking VHSHQ) The TV works fine, but when I put a tape in it is ejected and part of the tape stays inside, but can be pulled out.

Try a VHS Cleaning Tape Cassette. Follow it's instructions. If no better result it's not worth throwing away money on having repairs done but better put toward, if you can afford to, buying:
Option 1. A VHS/DVD player (combo as these are known) and plug that into the Emerson AV input.
Option Two: A VHS/DVD twin recorder combo deck - and plug that in.
Then start on copying any VHS tapes you cherish to DVD on this device.
Option Three: Forget the Emerson except for just using as a TV and buy a new TV with DVD player built in - the latest type of combo.
(I'm having to guess whether you've just used tapes to watch or record and watch)

What do I do when my Emerson TV keeps turning off by itself?

I had the same problem with mine turning off after 3-5 seconds. After much research I found a suggestion that on some combo units the vcr part could have a power supply cutout if it is not working correctly. I tried to insert a tape and found that the tape mechanism would not accept a tape. I used a little bit of force and managed to insert a tape. I then played the tape forwards and backwards and the power stayed on! I ejected the tape and found the TV then worked just fine. The power has now been on for over one hour. I hope this give you another avenue to try and fix your problem.

My Tv is turning off by itself

if all you want to do is disable the vcr portion turn the set on , install a blank vhs tape it has to be blank or the vcr will try to read it .and the tv and dvd should work fine. this is a timing problem in the vcr deck its not hard to fix but it is a pain.
