Hello, We just bought a used ktrs20kawhoo KitchenAid top-freezer,that doesn't seem to be getting cold in fridge section. Freezer is fine. Does it automatically cool top first? The air vent is very small in fridge section, though, and it has only been an hour. We did clean with compressed air, and let stand for 2 days, after 45degree transport. It was fairly cold, when we bought it, although setting was close to all the way up. Should I be worried this soon,or should I get it recharged, before I finish installation? Thanks, Dan in Michigan

Hello H,and thanks for the reply. It's been a few hours since it's been on,but we haven't put any food in, yet. The freezer is excellent, and we even turned it down,as it made ice cubes quick. There is some frost building in the the center of rear wall, though, although just noticeable in fingernails. The fridge has a bottle of soda in it,and is not yet cold,so I think I have a problem. It is not setting any records getting cold, that's for sure. I thought maybe since the freezer was so good,it would be O.K.? Thanks,Dan

Hello, Thanks for reply. I am new to this site, and didn't think my questions made it on, but I'm glad to see they did. Both fans are running, and compressor is working,at same time. Freezer is excellent, after a few hours of being plugged in, and made ice fast. Soda in lower fridge has a way to go, yet, and sure isn't quick. I will check back in the morning. Thanks very much,Dan

It sounds like the cooling coil is freezing-up. I had a similar situation. Does the rear wall of the freezer and/or the floor of the freezer have a buildup of ice or frost?

Need to make sure both fans are working and the compressors is running all the time the fans are. If not we need to check the compressor for overheating and look behind back panel in freezer for frost build up. Let me know if you want my help, Sea Breeze

You are doing good getting your message on line. Your refrigerator side should be getting 39 to 42 degrees by now and the refrigerator should defrost every 10 hours. If not I will need you to to check the timer inside the fresh food section. There will be a small opening through the plastic control panel with a small round hole possibly plugged with a piece of plastic to hide the opening. Remove the pulg and with a flathead screwdriver turn slowly clockwise until the refrigerator stops. It should remain stopped for about 25 minuits. If it should not turn itself back on then turn timer again clockwise until it starts. For now just let me know how things are doing and get back with me, your defrost timer part number is 482493 Thank You for rating me!

    Thanks Sea Breeze

Freezer cold, fridge isnt. Vent issue. Please Help before thaw!

Is there any ice/snow whatsoever built-up on the rear panel of the freezer ????(very important to know this).
If so, you have a problem with the frost free part of your fridge, causing it to ice-up,
and blocking the air flow to the fridge section.

Repost, and we should be able to go from there.

Suspected broken fan prevents top fridge section cooling down

Very good diagnosis and conclusion. That price for the motor is about right. I think you will not have any truble with the ciculation after you install the motor.

Bottom of freezer/fridge only getting cold.

Thre is a fan inside the freezer which circulates the cold air around both the fridge and the freezer compartments.
You should be able to feel cold air blowing around the inside, particularly at the top of the freezer.
If the defrost thermostat fails open, the internal fan (depending on freezer) will stop and this can be the cause of the freezer being warm at the top and no ice.
You say the bottom of the freezer is blowing cold, but are you sure its blowing, as it can feel like a cold blow. Of course the fan could have failed or may be the defrost heater itself.
Have a look at this site for some useful trouble shooting

Freezer works fine but the fridge won't get cold

It sounds like cold air from the freezer isn't making it to the fridge compartment. This can be cause by a several things. The damper that lets air into the fresh food side is stuck in "closed" position, the temp sensor (t-stat) isn't working properly, the evaporator fan (in the freezer comp above the coils) isn't working to blow air up to the fresh food section. In some situations, the defrost cycle for the freezer section isn't working and the coils have frozen into a block of ice and air can't flow over them properly so you get not cold air to the fresh food section but the freezer still stays cold due to the block of ice.
