After I power on HP Hewlett packard laptop what keys can I use to access startup menu

Which start up menu? The HP BIOS? The Windows Start Screen? Be a little more specific and tell us what you're trying to access / change.

I can only help with the system admin password (presumed windows). You will have to manufacture a "Password Reset Disk" on another PC or laptop (preferably running same OS - you will need your product key COA number). Instructions on MS website. Also - check your BIOS settings are OK when setting to boot on the password reset disk. That will be F1 or DEL probably on power up.Good Luck.

HP Recovery Manager can be accessd from the Start Menu, or by tapping F11 key as soon as you power on the laptop. Recovery Manager is used to reinstall back to factory specs_also used to make a Recovery Disk set.

Try holding the shift key down while selecting restart, then select "Turn off your PC."

Then power it back on normally. Startup will likely be a little longer than normal.

(The default "Shutdown" option in Windows 8 actually just hibernates your laptop.)

With a laptop that becomes completely un-responsive to all keys even the power key, then you last resort is to un-plug the laptop and gently remove the battery. This will power down the machine. Leave the battery out while you are troubleshooting the problem.

Remove main battery and unplug the power supply to the laptop, press power and hold for 60 seconds to remove residual voltage in a effort to reset the processor, and try again.

When you power on your laptop immediatly after powering on your laptop start pressing F8 key on your laptop keypad, after few seconds Advance boot options menu will appear in front of you in that menu select (repair my computer) option will take you to unother sub menu which will give you an option of load factory image.

AS YOU ON THE SYSTEM AND EVEN BEFORE WINDOWS STARTS KEEP PRESSING THE F8 KEY CONTINUEOUSLY. A MENU WILL APPEAR. SELECT SAFE MODE AND ENTER. WINDOWS WILL LOAD IN SAFE MODE. THIS WILL SOLVE SOME OF YOUR PROBLEMS. NOW RESTART THE SYSTEM IN NORMAL MODE.

IF THIS DOES NOT WORK SELECT "LOAD WINDOWS WITH LAST KNOWN GOOD CONFIGURATION " AND THEN RESTART. THIS WILL SURELY SORT OUT YOUR PROBLEM.

To resolve this issue, create a BIOS administrator password and delete previous ProtectTools user logs by following this procedure:

1. Download and install the latest SSM utility (SP42536).

2. Navigate to c:\Program Files\Hewlett Packard\SSM .
   

3. Access biosconfigutility.exe to reset the BIOS administrator password.
   a. From a command prompt, navigate to the SSM folder.
   b. Type biosconfigutility.exe to start the utility. A list of commands displays.
   c. Type /newsetuppassword:"password" to create a new BIOS administrator password.
   d. Close the command window.

   
   

4. Restart the notebook PC and press F10 at startup.
   

5. Log in using the new BIOS administrator password.
   

6. Choose User Management and delete any previous ProtectTools users.
   

7. Save the new settings and exit startup.
