My laptop is Acer Aspire 5570z. I downgraded my operating system from Vista Home to XP SP3.
My problem is scratchy audio.
I already installed KB888111 hotfix. I installed realtek hd audio driver.
There is sound output but it sounds bad. Scratchy.

- I solved it! I changed the XP SP3 to XP SP2. I installed the kb888111. Then I installed the realtek audio driver for XP Pro downloaded from Acer Support. It worked prefectly. I guess, I can say that the realtek XP driver for Acer Aspire 5570z doesn't work with XP SP3.

- If you find another driver that works. I will be interested. I'll stick to SP2 in the meantime.

- The driver was downloaded from the Acer Support website. It's the driver for XP. The hotfix KB888111 came with the driver download.
I think it's the KB888111 that make the Realtek driver incompatible with the SP3. I say this because I also have a Sony Vaio VGN-N365E. It also uses Realtek HD Audio, but I had no audio quality problem when I installed it on XP SP3. And I noticed it didn't use KB888111. Sony Vaio used KB835221 (the older audio fix). So,I guess, it's the KB888111 that is the problem. It's the wrong fix for XP SP3.
By the way, I tried using KB835221 using the Acer Realtek driver. The installation was successful but I had no sound. I also tried installing the Sony driver on my Acer but it was rejected -- it gave the message that the driver was being installed on the wrong machine.
- That's quite interesting. I wouldn't have thought to roll back even further to SP2 to fix the issue. It could have been an audio driver update that did it. I remember having an Acer from 2005. When I installed a driver update for my Realtek, it was scratchy as well. I think it may be OK to install other drivers but the Realtek one.

- I don't know if this will help. I'm racking my brain to figure out the audio problem. According to some specs I read, your Acer supports Intel HD audio. Run the utility from the link to see if that is the driver you have been missing. Let me know! :)
