On my 50 inch Phillips TV , the sound will go off and it won't come back on until I unplug it and the cable box for at least 5 minutes. Before the sound comes back on it will make a popping sound.

if you haven't unplugged the unit for 30 seconds, try that. otherwise, if that doesn't help, probably a board needs to be replaced. call phillips for service.

Unfortunately, we have the same problem. We hear popping and our sound goes lower. It is not the cable box for us, it's definitely the TV; however, it happens, on our set, after its been on for a few minutes and then goes away after half an hour or so -- however, this evening its been happening for the past hour and the TV has been on for the evening.

Your tv needs a software upgrade. This is usually done by a qulified service technician.

Could be the signal board has a bad cap, in this case it sounds like you are getting intermitten power to the inverters....when the tv goes down and of course you have audio....Shine a flashlight on to screen and see if you have a picture...look carefully. If this is the case..you have the above problem!
