Probably the main fuse has blown. If there is damage to the inside of the microwave I would seek professional service to ensure that seals are still working.

A paper towel caught fire in my GE Microwave, now it has no power.

Since the inside of the microwave caught fire, the main fuse has blown, there is probably damage to the magnetron "heats food" the interior has been burned, which will bring safety isses into play. I recommend a professional assess the situation on the grounds of cost and safety.

Last 2 times food cooked in microwave caught fire why?

Make sure the oven is clean and that the wave guide is not damaged or dirty. It's a heavy paper like thing on the wall that can deteriorate or get dirty and cause fire.

My microwave is completely dead. I have checked the fuse in the plug and it is fine. Any suggestions?

Hello,

What you are to do to solve the problem is to do a general troubleshooting on your oven below are instruction to follow.

The Microwave is a counter top model with a variety of preset cooking options, including timed cooking at a variety of power levels and sensor-cooking settings for popcorn, rice, beverages and single-serving reheating.

The sensor cooking and reheating features detect increasing humidity levels inside the microwave and automatically adjust cooking time for various types and amounts of food. This microwave also includes a turntable and an electronic control panel.

Instructions below are step by step solution for your oven

  1. Check to see if the microwave will start. If it will not start and the display panel is blank, you may have a power problem. Unplug the microwave and then plug it back in, making sure that all three prongs of the power cord are fully inserted into the wall outlet. If this doesn't work, check your home's fuse box. Reset the circuit breaker to restore if necessary.
  2. Ensure that the microwave door is fully closed. Press the Clear/Off button to cancel any previous cooking instructions. Re-enter your cooking program, including cooking time and food weight if necessary, and press Start.
  3. If "Err" appears on the microwave display, press the Clear/Off button and reenter your cooking program. The "Err" message will appear during the sensor-controlled programs (Popcorn, Rice, Beverage or Reheat) if the door is opened before steam is detected or if no steam was detected within the maximum amount of time allowed by the microwave. Be sure to leave the door closed during these programs, at least until time is shown counting down on the display panel.
  4. If your control panel will not work or if an "L" is displayed on the screen, press and hold the Clear/Off button for a full three seconds to unlock the control panel.
  5. If your sensor reheat program is resulting in under- or overcooked food, first try decreasing the amount of food in the microwave; the sensor programs are designed for single servings of food. The sensor reheat function works by measuring humidity inside the microwave--do not use a tightly-covered dish with this setting because no moisture will be able to escape and the food will overcook. Be sure that cooking containers are dry; moist containers will increase the humidity in the microwave and mislead the sensor, resulting in undercooked food.
  6. If your turntable is not rotating, first check to ensure that your food container is positioned so that it can freely rotate without hitting the microwave's interior walls; using a smaller food container can fix this problem. If the turntable still will not rotate, lift the turntable from its support and replace it carefully, ensuring that it rests evenly on its support.
Good luck.

Thank you and thanks for using fixya.

Food in micro caught fire

It may have dried out from over cooking.

This is common in potatoes, popcorn, and other low-moisture foods.

The manual will tell you about that, and it will also tell you not to leave a microwave unattended while it's running.

Microwave caught on fire.

I agree! That is an extreme hazard. Possibly due to over voltage of the power supply or faulty relay systems. Emerson is usually a cheaper brand anyhow. I would get the money back instead of exchange.

My daughter heated a rag in the micro and it caught on fire.

If everything is on, like your display lights and if the bulb lights inside the microwave when you close the door and press start, then you probably damaged the magnetron. The magnetron is the part that emits those high frequency microwaves and cooks the food from the inside out. I do not think there are any other damaged components. The reason I say that is that the magnetron through that little cavity or grille you see on the inside of your microwave was the closest thing to the fire and was damaged directly. By unplugging everything you can take the cover off. The magnetron sits behind the control panel but on top. It has cooling fins and two wires that plug into it. It is possible that one or both of those wires got burned. You will just have to look at it and visually inspect the magnetron. To take it off by unscrewing 4 screws and unplugging the two wire terminals that go to it. If there are no burnt wires going to it then your magnetron was damaged providing as I said above that everything else is normal it just doesn't heat anymore. You can get another one at a local electronics supply house or from www.mwoparts.com. Good luck.

Yam caught fire in microwave

If you have given the microwave enough time to cool off and it still does not work then I would suggest that you would need a new one, as the circuit board may be fried that connects the control panel.
