i didn't get your question well. so you have good picture with blue horizontal bars. and when you change focus you have out of focus picture with no bars ? try to do factory reset cos it seems like you have some settings wrong. after that try to see if bars coming with signal connected or no. if its only with signal try different cable and different input.

1. Turn the green
screen control on the Focus Block until retrace lines appear and gradually turn
it back Until the point where
you can see the retrace line disappears, just before cutoff. 2. Turn the red screen
control on the Focus Block until retrace lines appear and gradually turn it
back Until the point where
you can see the retrace line disappears, just before cutoff. 3. Turn the blue
screen control on the Focus Block until retrace lines appear and gradually turn
it back until the point where
you can see the retrace line disappears, just before cutoff. 4. If the
screen still appears too bright after proper G-2 adjustment, you need to adjust
the sub-bright adjustment in the service menu control down
until screen cut-off. (Service data Range is usually 21 to 25 in the Service menu, for Sony
sets you first go to category "MCP2", & then adjustment item 01(
"SBRT")= subright. For electrical the focus, put on the screen a
clear picture of your choice thru an input of the TV set from a DVD, then pause
the playback of the DVD Look into each color and rock that color focus control
back and forth (turn the control one way then the other way slowing down as the
picture goes into the best focus. till the picture looks sharp do each color
till they all look in focus. NOTE: it is best to look into each color
tube to achieve the best electrical focus. For optical focus please follow the manual lens adjustment in the sets
service manual By Larry

This can be as simple as poor solder connections at the convergence ICs or defective ICs. If you can solder you can fiz this yourself. Let me know if you wish to attempt the repair and I'll suply additional details and instructions.
try going to the antenna input from the menu screen, then trying to do the auto focus, or manual focus. My Samsung won't let me do the auto focus unless I'm looking at the antenna for some strang reason.
Dude, you dont have the same problem thanks for junking up my post.
Ok, so I have replaced the SUB power assembly and the SUB Defconvergence board, picture looks decent however magic focus just blanks the screen out and cannot adjust manually does the same thing.
Is there a way to enter the service menu and initialize the magic focus functions after servicing.
It must be using the saved ROM settings, but it wont let me adjust anything convergence wise.
Yes most of all tv's have focus blocks or Flybacks with screen and focus controls on them. Some sets have it where you can do it with back of set attached and some you have to take back off to adjust. Either way you have to be very careful, because you are dealing with High Voltage and can harm you as well as your set. It will be marked Focus and the other will be screen, Scr. is what lights or Darkens a set. Do not move this unless it is needed. You will need a mirror or someone looking and tell you to stop.
