Have the same problem.Have the camera about 2 years and must have used it 6-7 times.Went to use it on Mother's Day @ my son's college graduation and it came up with a black LCD. Can see pics that are on memory stick, but can't take pictures.Contacted Sony & all they would do is have me send it in for the flat rate of $185 to fix it!! What a joke!! I own a lot of Sony products and let them know that and also let them know that they have lost a loyal customer. They contacted me via email to follow up on my call and I let them know how I felt and still no response to that either.Never buying Sony again!! Stuck with a useless $300 + camera that doesn't do anything.

When taking a picture screen is black but lights up the picture after it is taken

Is this a DSLR (interchangeable lenses) or a point-and-shoot? A DSLR doesn't show the image until the photo is taken, and then only for a short (often selectable) period of time.

The camera may require manually opening the shoot lense to achieve flash to capture pictures. Observe the camera buttons for every complementary buttons that may require activation prior to photo shoots. The shutter button does not appear to click down and the lense does not open so no picture is taken. Usually it makes a sound and you know the picture has taken. HELP MEEE????

I had a similar problem with another brand of this type of camera. I would click the shutter and hear it open but it would not go through the series of four lens exposures unless I manually turned the film advance wheel . I think it may be because the motor isn't strong enough to draw the film across and trigger the shots. cheap plastic, ya know. I never got the film developed but im interested to see if it got anything at all.

Hey Realblond,
I would try resetting the camera back to factory specifications. You can do this by selecting mode reset under the shooting mode menu. If this doesn't work I would have it looked at be an authorized service technician.

Panasonic lumix 5.0

The TZ3 has a design problem with their new automatic lens cover, ie, manual lense cap on TZ1 was illiminated on TZ3.

Make sure your lense cover is completely retracted in front of the lense. If not, nudge it fully opened and see if this solves you problem. If it does, contact Panasonic with your problem. If not under warranty, tell them you want them to fix 'their' problem on your camers. Google it on the net and see how common this problem is.
