With this unit being from America its probably LOCKED to Region 1 and this means you can only play discs from USA, Canada the US territories and Bermuda. Any other discs will simply not play.
You need what is known as a Region Hack which can usually be done from the remote control handset. However, there are machines out there which CANNOT be hacked via the remote.
I have found this hack, it may work for your machine or it may not!
Power on
Open disc tray
Press stop (or there may be a button marked CLEAR)
Press 1 3 6 9 0 (the zero being for multi-region play back)
Close disc tray
Power off
You can try a code seach which many universal remotes will do, this may be called auto search, if you have the manual for the RCA see if it is listed, instead of entering a 3 digit code, you cycle through all codes until the correct one responds to the unit you are trying to program.
Hi there, I just had the same problem with my daughter, looked in the manual and it says to hold down the stop button and press the eject button on the unit. That should unlock it, its the same procedure to lock it, in case you want to prevent you daughter from attempting to play biscuits!! Regards, darren

hey, this happened to me too. what you have to do is put it in standby mode, then press and hold the eject and stop button on the actual dvd player, the remote wont work doing this. this is how you can unlock and lock the dvds into the dvd player. why this is a feature jvc thought this needed im not exactly sure, but thats how you fix it.
