Question about Samsung 4 Channel Dvr

SHR-1040 - rewind from end of footage??

We need to view the recording from last night. Is there a way to rewind to view it or go to a specific date/time? I tried the search, entering the date I am looking for (11/13/07) - and it shows the start date of the record as 4/23/07 end date as 11/14/07. When the search finishes, it starts play at the beginning (4/23/07). The record is 24 hours a day/7 days a week. Short of fast forwarding through 9 mos of footage, is there a way to view last night in a faster manner?? (Samsung's customer service did not have any solution, and this is taking FOREVER.) Thanks for your input...

Our unit was on continual mode and by all indication appeared to be recording, but the footage I can view loops from 4/23/07 - 4/30/07. Samsung said there could be a bad sector....in any event, we have had the false sense that it was recording/saving data and we are figuring this out the day after a major theft. If it says it's recording (recording lock on, on continual mode, red light on monitor indicating the record status, at time of stop end date was today's date - now the end date says 01/01/70) is there a way that last night is on there and how can we retrieve? I may change my tune on this product should I be able to view yesterday...but right now, I am in shock over having a security system that in all indications appeared to be working when we can't get any more recent footage than 7 months ago.

I'm having a similar problem. I just want to see who at my door at 10 am on Saturday. I go to 'date time search' and enter 12/15/07 10:00:00. It starts playing back starting at 04/27/07 19:00:00. Okay, so I fast forward from yesterday to today and keep checking on it. I went back to sleep and when I woke up I had passed yesterday and it had looped back passed the install date. I went to rewind it and it stops on 04/27/07. As an experiment I set the date time search to 04/28/07 09:00:00. It says SEARCHING on the screen and then starts playing from 04/27/07 09:00:00. So it seems to search ok for a few days from the date of install. But that's not what I need. I'm not opposed to taking out the hard and putting it in a PC to search for the date. I wonder if prettygirly can take the hard drive out and read it with a PC. It seems like it should be doable.

I am experiencing the sme problems with my unit. I have tried setting it up for continous record as well as motion sensing recording. In both cases the system appears to be recording (red light at the top of the screen and the red record led on the unit) but I have found that I have to watch the green HDD led on the unit as well. Normally it is flashing all the time, indicating that there is disk activity. However, sometimes it remains on and sometimes it remains off. When this occurs, I have no control over the unit. I can't get a menu to come up, I can't stop the recording. It just doesn't respond. I have to cycle the power on the unit to get control again. When I the disk space there is still plenty of room. I've tried a manufacture reset several times. I've also erased the HDD several times. Occasionally, right after erasing the HDD I will check to ensure tht the space reported is 0 used of 160 and I have found it reporting some very crazy numbers. I think I am going to try replacing the HDD. Just as others have reported, Samsung's support is worthless.

I'm wondering if the firmware can be upgraded as that might be the easiest thing. My other thought was that putting the hard drive into a PC and trying to view the video might be a way to see it.

Hi,

Normally the recordings are in MP4 format and a lot of players cannot play it. You would need divx plus player. Its free.

We're using a Samsung SHR-1040 recorder with

effective and records well. It has been in use since

Best to get a USB thumb drive and download the video needed to the thumb or flash drive. Put it on the computer and there you can use a program like Snagit to capture the best parts and save it for police. Saves a lot of wasted time

Connecting the recorder to the security system

If you are hooking your cameras into the SMO-151qn then you can use the pigtail cable to connect to the Shr-1040. Make sure the video out from the SMO-151qn goes into the video in of the Shr-1040. If there is a choice use CH1. On the Shr-1040 hold down the mode button and press CH2 for about 10 seconds. The Shr-1040 should reboot. Once it comes up press the record button. After recording for a feww minutes stop the recording. On the SMO-151qn press the button on the front Live/Vcr. You should see the screen from your Shr-1040. IF you hit play you should see what you recorded. Good Luck!
