Ice is building up and making fan noise. I replaced the defrost thermostat. Four or five days, it starts making noise again. Any ideas where to look after replacing the thermostat?

I suppose it's possible the fan has some issues of clearance. You may be able to adjust it to provide needed clearance. But if the Ice build-up is excessive, there may be a "timer" that may have an effect on the amount of ice build.

Possible problem with ice build up and fridge doesnt get cold enough to store food. Freezer works fine.

The noise is due to the ice build up in your evaporator. The evaporator fan blade is rubbing against the ice build up. This can is designed to turn off when you open the door. As far as the defrost problem it can be your defrost bimetal thermostat, the defrost timer/control or your defrost heater.

Fridge freezer making a loud buzzing noise

My Samsung refrigerator (rf263aebp) was making an awful buzzing noise in the rear after only 1 year. I solved the problem by loosening the rear panel that covers the fan. Apparently, it was too tight and was rubbing on something (the fan?) and causing the noise.

Our two door samsung has making noise from the motor and when you open the door it will stop. jackie.brincat@bigpond.com

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly

The noise that stops when you open the door is the evaporator fan. If it sounds like blades striking something there is most likely too much ice in the evaporator coils and the fan blades are striking the built up ice. If it sounds like a vibration it can be bad bearings inthe evaporatof fan motor.

Ice build up is usually a sign of an automatic defrost circuit problem. The unit should defrost close to 3 times a day depending on the defrost control installed. What you should do is do a manual defrost session by unplugging the unit, removing the freezer contents and directing a fan into the freezer compartment for just over 2 hours. This will ensure that all of the evaporator coil ice has melted. (Yes it makes a water mess) Tidy things up and return the unit to normal service after your manual defrost session. NOTE: If you have an automatic defrosting problem the fan noise can repeat in as little as 2 days as the ice once again builds up on the evaporator coils.

DO the manual defrost, LISTEN for noise after 24 - 48 hours. No noise... no worries, NOISE after 24 - 48 hours = Defrost problem. Causes of a defrost problem can be the defrost control, defrost heating element, the defrost thermostat or a wiring problem.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

Ice build up around fan in frezeer.makes looud noise....if not melted the refridgrator part a bottom of unit stops cooling.....if melted fan runs smthly....things cool well, but happens again over noght...

The defrost circuit has failed. Typical failures are the defrost heater has opened, the defrost timer if equiped, is not advancing or the defrost thermostat is open. To check the heater, melt the ice, and use a meter to check if the heating elements are open, if they are, then you will need to replace the heating element.

Tempreture on fridge too high ice build up in fridge mahes noise like a tractor

Your automatic defrost cycle may not be working. Feel the walls inside and if they are hard solid you have ice build up and the fan is hitting the walls or ice making the noise. Unplug your fridge for 2 days and let the ice in the walls melt. Put towels on floor to catch water. Plug it back in and it should run fine for a couple of weeks until the ice builds up again. You have a bad timer and it isn't letting the defrost cycle come on. Defrost cycle are heating elements that melt the ice build up and runs about 10 mins once a day or so. This will give you time to check if an afforable repair can be done or a replacement fridge.

GSH25JFRFWW evaporator fan makes loud deep noise at times

GE refrigerators have a faulty design, and so don't defrost completely, so ice builds up in the evaporator coils and on and in the evap. fan motor. Melting the ice will make the fridge more efficient, and the fan quiet again.

The slow, easy way to fix is take out all the food, unplug the fridge, leave doors open all day. Ice will melt, and all will be fine ... for a few months, until the ice builds up again. The fast way is here.

My problem also is that freezer is cold but fridge gets warm. When I turn the whole thing off for a sort time it works again.
