I have an ASUS Q501LA and it is stuck in the Aptio Setup Utility. How do I fix this?

Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try but definitely it's the HDD if you've done most of the troubleshooting with Asus Support.
- Start by disconnecting other devices connected to that laptop.
- Next is to load Aptio Setup screen and make sure that the HDD is set as the first boot device.
- If these will not work try loading BIOS into its default by pressing F9 while your in Aptio setup screen.
- Lastly, remove the HDD off the laptop and see if it will get pass the Aptio setup screen because if it does that confirms that its the HDD that is faulty.....not saying this will work for you but please make sure you no what you are doing before you try this.

  1. Select the Boot menu in the Aptio setup utility, select 'Launch CSM' and change to enable.
  2. Select the Security menu n the Aptio setup utility, select 'secure Boot Control' and change to disable.
  3. Select Save & Exit and press 'yes'.
  4. Hold down the power button until the unit switches power off completely.
  5. Switch back on and continually press the F9 button for about ten seconds; this should now allow the unit to boot up into the Windows Recovery menu.

Stuck in Aptio seup Utility

1. Power off the computer by holding the power button.

2. While holding down <Ctrl> and <Home> together, press the power button. Keep holding <Ctrl> and <Home> until you see "EZ-flash" start.

3. Let EZ-Flash run (will shut down automatically when finished running)

4. This is supposed to reset BIOS back to factory installed.

If this works, be sure to backup any data you may have on this machine. Then you may need to look on the manufacturer's site for any BIOS or driver updates.

I can't find a decent manual for your computer but there will be 2 pins on the motherboard that will say BIOS Clear. Short these 2 pins and turn the computer on. This is the only way to bypass the BIOS password. This operation will clear the BIOS and reset to factory defaults. After the BIOS is cleared, turn the computer off and take off the short.
