Check the bobbin / needle thread tension.
IN most machines the reverse is just for the feed as the needle and bobbin still spin in the same direction

I am not sure about this particular machine but in most machines there will be a nob on the front loose low numbers like 0 1 -2 work well on number 3. If the nob is not on the front check and see if it is on the side.

When sewing, mechanism sometimes binds. Bigger problem is when finished stitching, the hand wheel binds completely. Is there a mechanical problem or someplace to insert oil?

Hello Griff

Very likely the thread is kind of bound up in the bobbin area. Just turn the hand wheel a bit forward and backward several times -after you lift the foot. Apply a gentle pull on the fabric and it should "break" loose. Often teh thread is still stretched around teh bobbin and this releases it.
Feel free to reply to this post if this does not do it.

Bobbin won't spin to allow needle to catch thread

sometimes when you break a needle it can cause the machine to
jump time, the machine would have to be taken to a sewing machine
shop to be checked by the technican

Hand wheel won't spin?

Something is binding up inside. Clean and check under the presser foot and bobbin area. Really examine under there... look for threads wrapped around and in between moving parts. Also check in the slot for the take up lever... sometimes threads get balled up inside there can cause problems.

could also be a bent upper arm inside the machine (lets hope not) Get professional help if cleaning doesn't free it up.

Thread frequently breaking while sewing; how to adjust tension maybe?

Insert a new needle (flat side away from you). Make sure that you are threaded right, with presser foot up, pull top thread, should be smooth, now put the presser foot down, it should barely move. Also, use the same type of thread in the upper and bobbin, do not use old thread that you have laying around. Try your tension at 3 and see how it is. If, you need a copy of your manual, go to, It is free to download under customer support, it is really neat because you can save a copy on your computer plus enlarge the diagrams for easy viewing. Hope this helped you.
