As the title asks, how do you build up oil pressure in the d-series engine before attempting to start it ... My engine has been built for quiet a few months now, I did ..... If you have used a quality assembly lube, you will not have a ...
Jun 26, 2010 - In order to build some oil pressure I ran the engine. ... I am out of Ideas and do not dear to try to crank it over to build pressure. .... On my S2, it took me 10x removing the oil filter and filling up the center hole with oil and ...
you need to pre pressure a new /rebuilt engine so you get oil into all the galleries , connect an electric drill to the oil pump drive and spin for a good 3-4 minutes , connect a pressure gauge as well so you can see the pressure build up
This is an oil PRESSURE issue, not oil level.
It is likely that when you stop, and the engine returns to idle, the oil pump is not creating enough pressure to push oil up to the top of the engine and lubricate the valve assembly.
I hate being the bearer of bad news, but the plastic impellers in most modern oil pumps do fail over time, especially if they've been disturbed by the work associated with an engine rebuild. Or, it could be that it is not sitting right on the pickup and feed tubes, and they are being blocked and causing pickup problems at low RPMs. The solution will involved dropping the pan to figure out what's going on with the pump.
With an oil pressure gauge:
Remove the oil sender unit and install an oil pressure gauge at the cold engine and let the engine warming up. And record oil pressure data.
You will see if the oil pressure match your problems if so then there is an internal leak or bad oil pump or old engine oil.
Yes, if the engine oil and filter has been changed, but the oil light keeps coming on, then there may be pressure issues within the engine for the oil pressure, that is.
Connect a gauge where the oil pressure sending unit usually goes after unscrewing the sending unit, and measure the pressure to see if it within specifications. If below, then the engine's oil pump must be rebuilt or replaced in order to have enough pressure to lubricate the inside of the engine.
Please do this before the engine gets symptoms of oil starvation.
have a manual oil guage installed to chack true pressure, it may be the switch is bad, but i woiuld really want to know actual pressure on a rebuilt engine
Have u verified the oil pressure with a mechanical guage? this may just be a sending unit, if the engine had no pressure the lifters would be rattling like crazy at idle.
i would check the the oil pressure sensor is not foul up this can happen sometimes, as there is vain in the sensor. this reads the pressure. and tell the ecu. and your display.
